Wooden chess board

Hi everyone

Here’s a personal project I’ve been working on recently: a wooden chess board with storage for the pieces.

There is an error in the arrangement of the pieces on the chessboard, I challenge you to find it. :upside_down_face: :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Everything was modeled in Blender, with a focus on clean shapes and believable proportions.
I aimed for a realistic wood look and a calm, studio-style lighting to highlight the materials and details.

I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially on:

  • materials / wood shading
  • lighting and overall mood
  • composition and presentation

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

white details seem to emit light?

Yes, it’s a wireframe rendering based on material replacement. It keeps the lights.

Nice! Has a warm feel to it. The board is set up incorrectly tho. Queen is always on her own color.
Is that position on the board from one of your own games?

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

Thank you for considering me.

You’re right, my queen is misplaced. Yes, it’s a chess opening that I often use.

I presume you based this on an actual object. What a clever way to conveniently store the pieces! I haven’t looked very hard, but I’ve never seen a chessboard like that. Superbly modeled and rendered.

They’re up on Etsy with that clever rotating drawer. And also with the Queens incorrectly set up, ha!
