Like would it make it easier to establish the eyes, nose, mouth in low poly mode? cause getting the eyelids is kinda tricky im not using dynotopo in my workflow.
Not really- âbeautifying topology without adding new geometryâ is just retopology, which isnât particularly useful until youâre fully done sculpting/modeling
How low poly are we talking about? I managed to create all the major shapes (eyes, nose, mouth, ear) on a mesh with 6790 faces. And yes, by establishing them early (at least their rough shape) in âlow polyâ mode, it will make the whole process a little bit easier and cleaner.
By the looks of the sculpture youâre making, it has a kind of high polygon count already.
So model the eyes shut. Then you have the lids.
Seems to be a fairly common way to do them.
Not really, that will probably make it much harder in the long run. They would still have to be able to sculpt or model the eyelids into a correct looking eyelid shape for open eyes, only now instead of wrapping or carving the open eyelid shape correctly the first time, they have the much more complicated task of trying to push all the eyelid geometry up and carve and smooth it into that same open eyelid shape near the end of of the sculpt or after retopology.
Unless the sculpt is a static figure that will keep its eyes closed, it is much more important to get the eyelids looking good open.
You mean like a smoothing tool or maybe a quad remesher that gave good results? Both could be useful, but not quite for what youâre thinking of. Any tool that could hypothetically polish the sculpt would still rely on your knowledge of anatomy and comfort with the sculpt tools to get 90% of the way there.
If you need more topology, you can do that with either the quad remesher or maybe in edit mode, and then continue to sculpt. That said, I donât know what your topology looks like, but to me personally, your anatomical issues look, well, likely more anatomical than topological. I can see some of what youâre trying to do with your sculpt, but some of your forms are still off. Youâll improve with continued practice.
This is all very typical for beginner sculpts. Eyelids look like they should be simple at first, but theyâre surprisingly complex and one of the least forgiving areas of the face to sculpt/model. Weâve all been there.
