Would you apply for photo realistic human contest for free ?

In my previous thread about making a photo realistic human in Blender here : http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=121429&page=4 , I never thought that it would go as far as making a contest.
But now we have another problem, we (as far as I know) don’t have the money (at the moment) for prizes (I have asked Ton but he declined).

This contest is a good thing to make because then we can prove (again) that Blender can do whatever other professional software can do (in the hands of a good artist) AND we can improve blender (or ask for improvements) so it will evolve and be more suited (then now) for photo realistic creation of the human body (and rendering ofc).

So I would like to know if there are artist (who can possibly create a photo realistic human) who would apply for the contest despite the absent of the prize and will work only for glory and pride ?
Be aware that It can take a few weeks to a few months out of your life.
But then there is a saying “if you can not, not to draw, leave the brush alone”.

So think about it and replay here…

Goodness MAXDDARK, shall I contact a couple of people for sponsorship and try to get some prizes organised? I don’t mind.

PS: I voted no because I know how much work goes into something like this. However I’m very keen to seeing a contest like this being run for sure! Even if I don’t participate myself.

If you could help or get help that would be great, I want to get those 4 people on the “yes I will” side
ofc “my rules” are not written in stone and you (or whoever runs/sponsors this contest) can change them.

I’m doing somet thing along this line myself - So concurrent activity!

Cool, will send out some emails.

I voted yes, since I would if I could (way too much on the agenda right now…) .

MAXDDARK, I contacted Mr. Bomb (Jonathan Williamson). Let’s see what he thinks. I’ll contact BgDM, Ton, and Bassam tomorrow. It’s bedtime in the South of Africa

Thanks a LOT
I see you have quite a connections there
Ton said that I should ask blenderartist for it, but if you could convince him better…

Yep someone closer to the top hierachy - that’s our man to see.

try contacting Alltaken who organizes several contests, he might be interested.
i havent really followed this conversation, and don’t know much about how serious you are about this… but, anyway, can’t hurt.

.b

Thanks Basse, will do.

Had a chat with Jonathan Williamson and he’s very keen to sponsor a dvd or dvd’s  as prizes and also to possibly help run the contest with myself and someone else. Bit tied up with deadlines until later today but will contact some blokes later.

Nah not really hey:)

If you success to start this contest, please, post a link to it here. I dont want to miss it ;).

Thanks.

Yes, but I would lose. Because I have no time, AND because there are a lot of people on here who can bust out photorealism better than I ever could.

Considering I’ve only gotten as far as the shoulders of one model ever before (starting from the bottom) and that was only an untextured rough, I think I’ll stay away from this one for a while.

With a little help from Len’s buddies this contest might not be “free” after all.
But don’t anticipate a large prize.

Hey Maxddark, I haven’t had a chance to get hold of anyone else yet I’m afraid. I just finished a killer deadline and am completely buggered. But I will have some good free time over the next couple of days and will formulate some ideas to be presented to possible sponsors and helpers.

Mr. Bomb (Jonathan Williamson) has already shown big interest in possibly helping with the contest & judging and sponsoring prizes, we briefly shared some ideas, but I’ll elaborate more as more details gets figured out. I don’t want to name-drop before actually speaking to guys. Who knows, maybe we can get some nice prizes organised.

So ANYONE that thinks they would seriously enter a contest like this say a big AYE in this thread.

Len - take your time, I think we should wait till F1 contest is over first
and Thanks again.

I’d be keen to enter (as you know from your other thread) but a prize incentive would be a key to getting entrants to put that much work in. Haven’t voted in the poll yet for that reason.

Like Len said, I’m very interested in sponsoring some prizes and helping with the organization of the contest. It’s real serious contests like these that can really help with the progression of professional-quality work within blender.

I would be interested in participating - time permitting. And of course, prizes would certainly add to anyone’s motivation. :eyebrowlift:

BTW: I may have missed it . . . but are we talking about a bust, or full figure?
