WrenLaurel's Sketchbook (2024 - )

Newest Piece

Hi! I’m Lauren. I’m just getting started with Blender this December after a year of learning Maya as part of my animation diploma. Thought a sketchbook would be the perfect place to show my progress in the future, as I’m loving Blender so far and really want to continue with it!

Starting out with my first ‘piece’ - which is some kind of cute low-poly paperweight :joy:

I was really inspired by one of @DNorman 's post in the 10 Cube challenge where they achieve some beautiful light refractions by adding Sheen to their base material, and from there I kept experimenting with some jelly tutorials and lighting until this little guy was born.

I won’t post him as finished yet since I’d like to add some animation.

Open to feedback! Especially in regards to texturing/lighting.

Phew, bit late, but want to post some updates from the end of 2024.

Strange Claws: a piece about Womanhood.

Some 2D shader node I was playing around with:

A test render of a bird in a box to accompany my jelly fish above:

And I participated in the 10 Cubes Challenge! I might pop the complete set in another reply here

Already been working on some stuff in 2025 which I’ll hopefully complete soon!

Dystopian urban environment inspired by Split Second (1992), the Rutger Hauer film where London has been flooded for decades.

Not quite finished yet, but I’ve learned so much already while making this one, including how to add fog, compositing effects, and even just how to use slots to apply multiple materials to an object!

Wow, how did you do the cartoony shading, I have tried so hard to do that!

Not the most HQ screenshot, but this is the node setup for the body:

And I think I used this tutorial to start off with?

EDIT: I think I used this one too!

You might have luck finding more tutorials on youtube by searching things like NPR (Non-Photorealistic Rendering), half-tone shader, comic book, etc.

Very simple model (I don’t think I even textured the lamp pole), and some noise on the 'light cone. I wanted to play around with Blender’s live compositor and I adore it so far!

Going for that PS1/PSX aesthetic, and very inspired by Mouthwashing’s visuals.
