Based on the positive criticisms I had on my recent post on a river I created in blender using the new openscatter addon, I have taken into consideration these criticisms and tried them on a new one which is what you see below.
A big thank you to @BG_Division for your positive criticism.
I took this one from a different angle compared to the other one but I hope you like it.
Please let me know what you guys think of this one too, are there even further ways I could improve? And please note that I intend to make a tutorial on this, so please let me know what you think honestly and respectfully.
Thank you.
very nice, reminds me of Breath of the Wild
I would consider making the water a little less blue as rivers dont reflect as much blue sky as a lake or ocean
That’s awesome. I think you can squeeze a bit more realism out of it in the compositor, particularly the colours. I can’t do a very good job from a screenshot, but here’s one variation:
Hmm, interesting, thank you so much for the suggestion, it really does look more realistic from your composited version, though it looks less saturated.
Yes I did dramatically reduce the saturation, as over saturation tends to look cartoonish. I think you may have set the saturation to 1 in your materials, which may be resulting in the saturation not decreasing as it should in bright light, giving a uniform look. You can emulate the behaviour in the compositor by reducing the saturation where the levels are highest, by mixing a black and white version with the colour version, and driving the factor with the luminosity of the original. I didn’t do that here though, I just used the colour balance and hue correct after desaturating with an rgb to bw node.
