3D Widget only visible with transformation tools?

I guess this tool will still work as it is now.

Well, the gizmos are supposed to be available for “everything”, I guess, so yeah, I expect to be able to enable any gizmo (move/scale/rotate or all 3) when using any tool, even the translate tool. We’ll see…

Now, I’m not sure about selecting stuff through them, this is tough, specially for the rotate gizmo… they should make a separation between click/click and drag, for it to work…

This separation already exists in the event system. This is how Blender detects the “tweak event”. I am not sure why it’s not taken advantage of here ?

Ahhh I see, making the transform gizmos available at anytime, regardless of the active tool ? Interesting.

Yeah?
But this separation needs to be built in to the gizmo widget itself. Maybe that’s the missing part…

Yeah. But it seems that tools with custom gizmos will have priority over the transform gizmos, which is okay, unless you deliberately uncheck the active tools gizmos.

Can’t wait to see it in action…

What it looks like at the moment. Seems kind of hidden to me, but we’ll see how it evolves. I gotta say, it’s nice to finally be able to select and move things with a single button (really nice with a tablet).

Can I have the gizmos visible when running tools like inset/bevel?

Yeah, it stays on with inset/bevel.

Did they just got rid of the text Overlays/Shading?
What’s the reason behind it? There are plenty of space there. I don’t get it.
Things are going to be more difficult to click. :man_facepalming:

There aren’t any mockups yet, but they’re going to be moving stuff based on their meetings they had this past week.

I really don’t like this idea. They should focus and make good use of the tool settings in the properties editor, instead of this nonsense of populate topbars everywhere.
This will be a scrolling fest.

Lol, I don’t have all those options…

i feel even moving components is very slow both with/out gizmos, it was better around alpha/ and best in 2.79… i wish we could get tweak and press events on the same click …maybe they altered the threshold or something, i am hoping that at lest we get to 2.79 level, that’s the most important IMO.

:this is how it’s in 2.79.

I think it’s delaying until you drag. Probably a keymap setting, but I don’t know where.

Not sure what I’m missing but the latest build still doesn’t show the gizmo unless transform tools are selected despite the new options being set.gizmo

@xrg, edit: you were right, i found it…it’s in the input setting if anyone wants to change it…to me it felt much more slower than 2.79, now it’s fixed , thanks .

@intricity it’s not pushed yet, you only get it if you complie blender yourself, u’ll have to wait until next build to see it.

Ok, thanks for that

You’re missing something, as for me it looks like this out of the box:

But there are bugs with it even so. You’re not seeing anything because the Move/Rotate/Scale buttons you don’t see default to being off, so you have to turn one or more of them on to see anything.

But currently you can’t turn them all off once you turn one or more of them on so you have to check off the Active Tools box to get rid of them. the original design mockup has them being check-boxes rather than the radio buttons we got, so I expect this to change.

It would also be nice to easily toggle the Active Object option on and off alone, but the buton next to the drop down on the header toggose everything in the menu, so you lose the transform gizmos whenever you click it.

Not terribly helpful. I submitted https://developer.blender.org/T63580

How are the transform tools still relevant if we can display the transform gizmos at anytime ?

Oh yes. If I’m reading this correctly, this is the end of the global top-bar ? I think this is a very neat move. One active tool per editor, no more ambigu-ubiquity… I vote for this. Hopefully they also make the redo panel accessible from everywhere.

Yeah, each editor will have it’s own instead. They’re still trying to organize everything so it fits.

Discussion with mockups going on here : https://developer.blender.org/D4680

That’s what I’m talking about: https://developer.blender.org/D4680#106538

It’s impossible to elegantly dump a bunch of settings in a topbar. I don’t even understand why they are sticking with this terrible idea. A lot of settings will just be hidden most of the time. :man_facepalming:

I still don’t understand why they’re sticking to horizontal. A vertically aligned popup, that opens and closes with a hotkey should fit everything.

Also if they stick to horizontal, I don’t get why they put the snapping and orientation stuff in the tool settings rather than leaving it in the header, That stuff shuffling about is just going to be frustrating.
