Inspiration/reference for this render was a wild blend of a dystopian city scape in a rough Tatooine (Star Wars) like environment paired with densely populated and cramped living conditions a la Hong Kong’s Walled City, Favelas nestled up a mountain side in Brazil’s large cities and large slum quarters/cities around the world. Other core elements were the emphasis of scale and the interplay between shadows/darker areas and lights/lit areas.
The micro displaced terrain and cliff plus the high amount of objects made the scene super resource heavy. I had to spend a considerable amount of time to make my pc render it, by splitting it up in 4 layers and optimizing it where possible, but in the end I learned a lot.
