the x post shares an impressive video of the app in action
made with AI
At some point making application for a living will not be possible (next 3 to 5 years max), when you simply can point an AI to the app product page and ask it to clone it. An AI subscription will cost a lot less than all the app it can clone for you :(. if nothing else there is going to be very big explosion of cheap/ free clones made by other people
Someone in the comments Quote:
“Ya, a raster editor. A slick looking replacement for Photoshop. Mine’s in the other direction - vector. A replacement for Figma. I really love what he’s done with the UI. That’s my biggest hurdle right now.”
Sure but he opened a door. I suspect other will start using AI to add their own requirement.
the bar for entry is low. all you need is and AI subscription, and you can add what you need, and submit it for the repo owner to finish/fix it with AI as well.
In any case I will not hijack this and make it about AI, just wanted people not to dismiss it, most likely it will evolve fast
that is not the door i meant , the hardest part about using AI is building the initial design with all the educated choices that need at least some knowledge about software engineering and making the initial GUI, specially the GUI is extremely hard. the possibility of wasting a lot of time and tokens and failing or the project being harder than expected, all that have been overcome, it is now behind anyone wishing to push this forward…
so adding a small-ish feature with AI to an existing app that is friendly to AI submissions is going to be easy, I suspect adding EXR support to it will take a day work for someone who know what they are doing , maybe 2 to 3 days if they flounder it, or if there is no existing EXR library that can be used …
You literally can ask ai to use gimp as a design reference or even code lifting directly if reusable, and proving that this has been done is almost impossible specially if the code was translated form C to Swift (the Language used in this app)
I’m not saying this a good thing, I’m saying what is possible
It has been only a day and there is already multiple forks, including a version for windows that seem to have ported a lot of code already. but no releases yet
I have only played around with it for a minute, but it seems like a solid alternative for Adobe Substance Designer. That was a while ago (years probably).
Yes apparently they already added PSD file support.
they because it seem a few people already started contributing using AI vibe coding too, so rapid changes are expected. this may turn into zed text editor but for photo editing.
I suspect there will be a generic AI integration with all provider which will open a door also, instead of affinity/Photoshop being closed to their own parent companies only. a lot of them developing photo editing capabilities for social media sharing
zed has a new version to download every time you open the app basically
edit:it already happened some one has added generative editing in a pull request
I just came across this video for Affinity 3.3, and one feature, being able to export objects from Blender to place inside of Affinity, piqued my interest in a big way.
Suggestions are welcome. Also, this is a Wiki post, so anyone with Trust Level 1 or higher can edit the original post and contribute. If you do, please follow the rules I’ve noted somewhere at the top of the initial post, thanks.
Ah yea, great call. @Metin_Seven it doesn’t fit well anywhere. But it should be in. Maybe in 3D, and expand the definition of 3D with anything related to the 3D pipeline ? since MaterialMaker is for procedural materials (although it can be used for different purposes, such as generating 2D patterns).
