ArtStation Censorship

Just thought I’d share this here to see what you guys make of it (screenshot included in case it gets removed completely)…

I don’t have any connection to Vladyslava at all, I just think she’s a talented concept artist and follow her on Artstation.

I don’t quite understand what is happening here. Was the artwork of this image by Sadan Vague censored? Was it named “Artsation is CENSORING art”?

Yeah that is a little confusing to me also, and by their styles it could be either of them. But the message from Artstation is addressed to Vladyslava. Anyway it was set to private, which is a strange censorship choice.

I don’t expect Artstation to take sides in the conflict personally, but they should also not be censoring “political art” either.

I would assume they are against Russia, as their parent company Epic has openly condemned the invasion

Indeed, but some of the best artists on Artstation are Russian perhaps that has an effect on Artstation in particular? Certainly in the comments down the side the Ukrainians don’t feel that way. I’m not sure why they would censor that piece in particular and it’s quite excellent.

More than likely it has nothing to do with Russia and it’s the Swastika that’s ‘offensive’. People get strangely freaked out over the swastika, yet the same people will wear a ‘trendy’ hammer and sickle t-shirt, despite it being the symbol of an ideology with over 20x the murder count of National Socialism.

That is probably true.

Let’s just stay away from comparing murder-counts, shall we?

Why should that be avoided? Why are you automatically dismissive? I think it’s important because it puts things into perspective and leads us to the disturbing conclusion that people have been so brainwashed with propaganda since the end of WW2 that they venerate, celebrate, and publicly revel in the fact that they are adherents to the second most murderous ideology in human history: Communism.

This thread is about ArtStation Censorship, not historical or political perspectives on different ideologies, let’s get back on topic

The entire REASON for the censorship is 100% based on political ideology so why would you say that? It makes no sense.

I’ll leave it at that, but it sort of proves my point.

Because (among other reasons) your reasoning could just as well be applied to e.g. people wearing the ‘Union Jack’ on their t-shirt, or the ‘Stars and Stripes’ and this would lead us to the question of how many were murdered (one way or another) by e.g. the British Empire or modern Great Britain over the course of centuries etc. etc.
The point is: Everybody (every state etc.) historically has plenty of blood on their hands, including whomever you might think doesn’t.
That kind of discussion is just futile, offtopic, against the forum guidelines…

greetings, Kologe

I’ve always assumed that people more easily dismiss the atrocities that occurred under communism because they were primarily due to incompetence and crass neglect, while the nazis were far more purposeful and proactive about it.

None of this is on-topic, nor is this “Latest News”. If you want to debate political ideologies, “Latest News” is not the category for that

Then move it to the appropriate category. I think this is an important conversation to have.

ArtStation, like every other privately owned and operated server has a right to censor whatever it wants on their server.

i just changed the category to off-topic, now you can guys freely talk about all that is this about…

same, my country is one of those still brain washed people within this communist goverment, as you may know i am from venezuela, one of the countries with most higher inflation in the world, and the cause of that because many reasons but for resuming can be some mentioned: people’s money stealing by goverment people (fiscals, deputies, politians, etc), bad health care and social system (hundreds of people dying because lack of medicine or too expensive treatments), same with food and supply for homeless or retired elder, children and etc, high corruption of all kinds, drug dealing from goverment related people etc etc, lack of national production in the economy (most of products such as food of known worldwide trademarks as imported here, for example from turkey, iran, siria, brasil, mexico, colombia, usa, etc) and very few big and small venezuelan companies still stand very well with food, medicine and other products even still with this bad economy. not even a average rate per month leading to poverty, more prone to decease, hunger and lacking any other of “basic” needs as food, medicine, other luxury services, clothing, etc (currently is 30 USD or more per month as minimum wage, before it was like 2 usd per month)…

and now is even worst now most of latin america countries are now left sided (aka communistic) now Colombia is now having their first ever left sided president that was elected recently btw…

You have got to hand the communists some credit though, because they were able to eliminate wealth inequality just like they said they would do.

Here is the catch, they eliminate inequality not by lifting up those who are poor with an economy bursting with opportunities, but instead do it by making everybody poor. You are destitute and miserable, but not to worry because everyone else is the same way, except for the people running the country that is.

and people with money laundry and illegal businesses, and “enchufados” (that could be translated to “plugged in people”, basically people that has connections like business with the corrupt government, or with other corrupt rich people) and many more, at least for Venezuelans we all care about mainly food, with a regular local job isn’t easy, but people manage with help from others like family or friends, or family abroad than earn better and send some money for better sustainability of their families.

there is though almost every month or every 2 or 3 month and sometimes more delayed food supply from the government, this is mostly available for most communities, and the price is like 1-2 USD for a bundle of regular food items that are more expensive to buy in a bundle like this in a supermarket such as: 4/6 rice 1k bags, 4/6 corn flour 1k bags, 1/2 pasta 1k bags, 1/2 beans 1k bags, sometimes 1k sugar and sometimes a little 200 gr bag of coffee and milk, 1 liter of oil, 2 tuna/sardine cans and something else sometimes…

and yeah that’s what communism sells here, gives you a few bags of food to buy them for a miserable cheap price (basically a giveaway right??) many people depend in that supply, others have to work harder, or get help from others, is a really tough situation for the most you know…

Well, fwiw my thoughts on the work:

Now to be entirely honest (…perhaps a tad subjective, as well) although nonetheless, this piece is basically an interpretation toward deified symbolism bordering on a surreal historical narrative, the Rus in particular have endured since time immemorial - by which in summation put very simply, an anti-war stance solely aimed at the current regime.

So indeed kudos, because in my view she deserves recognition for making a public stand, against tyranny :+1:

Edit:
“The Long and Short of It” is that AS in this specific instance got it wrong.

For me most hilarious fact is that all this ‘punch the nazi’ hysteria originate in US.
In my country Germany do numberless horrible war crimes during WWII. But I don’t remember that Germany bombing cities in US. intentionally targeting among other National Library, clearly marked hospitals. Also can’t remember that Germany execute civilians in mass including pregnant woman’s children, helpless elderly . How many cities are decimated in US. during WWII? How many villages are erased from maps? And if we play with numbers… from 1942 to these days US. cause more deaths and suffer than Stalin and Hitler combined. With this logic all what is connected with US. must be banned - censored, right? I don’t think so. However all are free to have his opinion.

Back to topic. For me this… artwork is from technical side ok. But on the other hand this is just low tier xxxx. I grown up in socialist regime. During my youth, I drew cartoons. Among other things, political cartoons. But cartoonists, at least good one avoid to go too direct, how to say. Instead we do more subtle, indirect stuff. This approach have much bigger impact on long run ( if such stuff have any impact anyway ). I see on Artstation many really amazing anti war artworks from Ukraine artists. Without such primitive depiction they chose much more impactful approach… very strong artworks.
Artists, at least one who consider himself as artist much try harder if he want to NOT be just one more barking agitprop ‘activist’.

PS. Interesting thig are that one of strongest critique of Russian government / politics come from one Russian artist. When I see his series of illustrations I was WTF??? Until I realize what author do.
PPS. I’m against this xxxx war on many levels, not because this xxxx war is ‘current thing’.
