Barbed Wire Baseball Bat (Image Heavy)

I will make another tutorial showing how to make the later today

if you can make a little PDF
so people can download and keep it as a reference

and include all the steps like doing the baseball bat with may be a sample file
certain people would find it interesting as a tut and we can use this thread as a reference for this effect

keep up the nice work

I can make a jpg or something for the barbed wire, no problem, but it will be too much to make a tutorial on the whole bat, as its hours and hours of work to get to where I am now, so it would be a huge document that would take days to make :stuck_out_tongue:

not the baseball bat itself just use a simple cylinder

it’s for how to for the barbed wire itself using array and curves!
like how to make the helix with array then make the first piece fo barbed wire

and after show how to use the array fit curve i think to get it down on the cylinder

that should be short and show how to get this barbed wire done!

thanks

i have an example how to make helix with a little UV sphere

but don’t remember how to make a line helix in 3D space

certain there is a way to do this but don’t remember how!

or may be there is a wiki page for this!

happy 2.6

Just had a bit of time to work on the Logo for the bat, which will be engraved into the surface by a small amount.

I give you the Thwacker Pro 2000!

This is a pretty good bat model! Something you might be interested in is that you could submit this to be an item in Team Fortress 2. Maybe a Scout’s melee weapon?

Here’s where you can submit it, though you’d have to make a low poly version with maps and appropriate colors: http://www.teamfortress.com/workshop/

And if you’ve never heard of team fortress 2 before, then you should get it, after all it’s free :stuck_out_tongue:

Keep up the good work!

@fusobotic,

Thanks for the kind words!

TF2 is always an option, I guess, but this is mainly for my own gratification and practice. I guess we will see

Just a small update with the logo applied before I start to tinker with the LP

Are you playing suicide baseball?!

Nice model, I like the detail very much.

Ah. Someone’s been watching “Homeland”

Thanks for the kind words guys

Hey guys!

Sorry about the late post. I only found some time today to crack on with the first pass of the LP. It’s currently weighing in at 3739 tris.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/metalliandy/Baseball_Bat_LP_WIP_1.jpg

I still have to do some more optimisation yet, like removing some back faces etc. which I hope to get onto soon

Also, due to a issue with Blenders culling, some of the verts. look like they they are intersecting in the middle of some faces, where in fact they aren’t. (on the top and bottom of the grip), so please ignore them :stuck_out_tongue: (it doesn’t show when zoomed in a little more, as they are below the surface of the overlapping geo.)

Comments and critique are welcome

While it doesn’t look nearly as good as the HP version, it still looks pretty formidable and would be pretty good for a game or something. It’s not exactly barbed wire though…

Thanks!
Yea, it’s no where near done yet :stuck_out_tongue:
The cylinder and planes that are around the body of the bat, will be alpha’d and normal mapped, so the final wire will look much better

Oh, so you’re using alpha’d planes and normal maps. For a second it looked like you were creating a spiked bat, also with an alpha-ing and normal-mapping technique, but now I see where you were going.

Hey guys!

I have really wanted to get back on this and I have managed to fit in a few hours to optimise the LP a little and do some baking (in xNormal) and a first pass at texturing (still lots to do)

The LP is 3659 tris in total (I’m still working on the LP for the grenade :P)

That is awesome! I thought I was looking at a high-poly model for a minute, but that’s the low-poly with alpha-mapped planes and stuff? Wow. The logo looks great too, very baseball bat like
I really like the grenade too.

Sorry for the late reply! I must have missed the notification email :frowning:

Thanks for the kind words! Yea, it’s all alpha mapped
I hope to get some more time to work on this soon and get everything finished!

Updates ahoy!

Managed to finally get an hour or so tonight to get stuck in with the texturing on this

Still having a little trouble getting the right feel for the grip, but I will keep working on it.

Excellent post, and great looking model too.

Actually, seriously impressive.

Only issue for me, is the tape looks too damaged/worn not to be actually splitting and breaking up.
