Blender Guru Competition: Photo Realism

okay I’m REALLY done now.

Thanks!
Still (very slowly) working on it. The newspaper was a temporary solution to fill the scene, but I like them now (though still need more work). Will post on BS after competition, so u can check up nodes.

Cycles Render (+ internal for mist)

Hello,
i’m 14 and this is my entry…
(Here you can fin my creation)

I had other image but when i press F12 to render… my computer needs more power, now is like a tortoise.

Greetings from Barcelona!!! :slight_smile:

Wow, there are a lot of good entries so far. Here is my drop in the bucket so to speak. I rendered out 3 angles to show the scene a little better, but that was before I read that you can only have one entry per person, so the first image is my ‘entry’. The other two are just some detail shots of the scene.

This is based in part on the Yusuhara Wooden Bridge Museum in Japan. Although I had wanted to do a model of that bridge for a while, the concept ended up turning into a miniature ‘zen-garden’ like piece. I have also been very taken with aquarium landscaping and thought the wooden bridge would fit nicely with that idea.

Rendered with Cycles for the most part, but I had to render out a separate depth map with BI for the main image due to Cycles being unable to disregard items in the z-buffer making the aquarium glass get in the way of the depth map. Overall I found Cycles a little bit of a double edged sword - I enjoyed being able to work with the compositor and with not having to leave Blender too much, but I felt often frustrated at the lack of certain features that I’ve been accustomed to having, since I’ve mostly used Luxrender in the past. It was a good learning experience though, and I think I achieved about %90 of what I think I could with Luxrender. Which isn’t to downplay Cycles, since I didn’t think I’d even be able to do %50 of what I wanted to do, having never really used it before.

@Pianoman

LOVE the spiderweb, awesome look you got. Though you should use cloth system to get it hanging ‘right’. :smiley:

(and you should generally avoid standard lensflares like the ones in Gimp & PS, they are just screaming ‘fake’)

Wow! Amazing work everyone! Good to see how good Blender can be and how far I have yet to go! :smiley: :heart:

Nice image!

wow this looks pretty real!

Wow this is looking pretty awesome!

@albion

Very nice. The two bricks in the background lacks contact shadows, som AO, but that’s a minor complaint. Overall very nice, love the feeling of it. :slight_smile:

Here’s my humble contribution.

Hello!
My first time taking part in a competition. Spent maybe 2-3 days making this image. Rendered over night in cycles, 5000 samples, 4K resolution, 15 hours rendertime.
Some minor compositing done in Blender.

@Arlanda

Very nice. My favorite so far. :slight_smile:

Here is my competition entry.
It was done using Cycles with a little noise reduction done in GIMP. Also composited a little with Blender.
