Blender Guru Competition: Photo Realism

Hi my name is Louie Bernhardt. I’m a newbie on this site but have been doing blender now for 4-5 months already. Here’s the URL. Used: amb occ, env lighting, subsurf scattering, raytransparency, and mirror all packed into neat little 3940 by 2160 resolution. Maybe that’s why it took all night to render.Critique is welcome but don’t overdo it I’m only 12 years old.

Thanks for the tip, ill see what i can do.

edited AGAIN newer version down below. :stuck_out_tongue:

To attach images to your posts they need to be somewhere accessible to other users, not on your own hard drive. Post then to somewhere like http://www.pasteall.org/pic/

Ok now my image shows an icon, but not the actual image

Calzaath, maybe still too dark.

A Work In Progress Model. Just Need To texture It.http://www.flickr.com/photos/60045802@N06/

Hey your image isn’t showing up because you need click on the image on the website. This shows the full size image and compy that URL. I made that mistake too

A bit better, but still too dark, especially the clearing. Look at this and you’ll know what I’m trying to get across ito lighting:

(hoping the link works, lol)

Overall, it looks like you did great modeling, but the dark gray overlay hides it, especially the clearing in the background. If you look at the photo in the link, you’ll see that light overpowers shadow; the trees are darkend, because the camera had to adjust for the light, but it doesn’t become grayed out, but adds contrast and depth to the image.

Hey guys! First off i gotta say that there is loads of AMAZING work in this thread, seriously congrats to everyone who’s entered something, it all looks great  I’ve only been doing serious Blendering/Animation/Whatever this is for 3 months now, so I’m aware I’ve got a fair deal to learn, so I’d love criticism or advice or whatever you guys got! But yea, here’s my submission!

Well I’ve seen a lot of good renders, and doubt I have a shot at winning, but here’s my entry anyways.

Rendered In Cycles, I think around 5000 samples and quite a long time.

okay i think I’m done editing.

Canceled this entry!!!
Posting a new one soon!!!

If this image looks bright enough to you, then your monitor must be way out of adjustment.

Sorry accidentally deleted the .blend but have tried to recreate it

hmm even on my lowest brightness it looks good :3 maybe its a taste thing. Can you see anything?

Its really dark, really dark…
The version posted by 3dementia is much better

@Calzaath

Your monitor gamma is obviously out of whack - I mean, the version posted by 3dementia isn’t even that bright. So no, this isn’t about taste, if the idea isn’t to portrait a dark forest in the middle of the night. ;D
