BMW M3 e92

Hey there!

In past I have modeled few cars and everytime I have ended up with wireframe that I really never was satisfied with. So this time I thought to make things a bit differently. First of all making car in seperate parts, allowing me to use different kind of edge flows and densities. Another thing is that I thought now to post WIP’s here to get some feedback on what to make otherwise in order to ARCHIEVE THOSE GODDAMN WIRES I WANT

So here we go, this is just really fast mockup of the car, but I’d already like to know where to change edge flow in order to get results I am after!

Newest wire:

All feedback is much appreciated!

diude you are talking about parts and i see one damn one part car. what’s wrong?

if you want model good… start modeling bumper when it will be done in 100% you go to next part of the car.

I have a tutorial on YouTube if you want to take some ideas off that.

Well diffrent parts are modeled in invidual pieces, allowing easily to make gaps in union points.

Thanks for advice, maybe I’l try that. Usually in other kind of modeling people advice that you should first model base shape and start adding detail later, but guess it goes other way around in such a complex things as cars.

Thanks, will take a look on it!

you appear to have some minor topolagy errors on the top of the car but other than that, looking prety good

So why your model is single object?

I just combined objects to show wire, basicly its in different parts anyway.

Though i started totally from scratch for now using your logic of making one part 100% complete before moving to others

So I pretty much reworked whole front side of the car, back still under work. Here are screenshots, please give feedback on edgeflow / things that need to be fixed!

it does not at all look like some of the parts line up. what i do, for example, to make the doors, is the edge of the front quarter pannel that will end, and then interlock with the door by a matter of about 6mm, i do Shift+Alt and select the edge, then i do Shift+d to duplicate it. move it to where the start of the door will be, then do P>make parent from selection, then i model the door from that one edge, instead of modeling it seperate to the car and trying to line them up.

Here is a quick paint-over

DUDE, thanks a lot I think this really made me figure out how poles should be positioned to get desired smoothing via subdivs…!

So I tried to fix things you pointed out and also completely remodeled the back part of car

And again, ALL FEEDBACK is much appreciated!

you attachment is broken…

it seems that this forum doesnt like if u upload same:image to op as in different post… anyway pic is in op and here

edit: I think there is some unintentional vert ripping in section between door and back tire, it can be fixed easily by welding verts… other than that I really tried to make optimal geometry.

another paintover…
fix the door too…
try applying the solidify modifier to places (use about .8 for the inner/outer crease values)

DDD thanks again!

Heres new wire:

I am wondering how it would be smartest to create these pits for handles and blinkers without fukking up geometry too much?

Feedback much appreciated as always!

you are getting there, i see good progress, now i circled the ares that need work, so try to apply the stuff that you learned from my previous two paint-overs to figure out the “correct” topology for those places.

A note to any other car modelers that want critique on their topology. These are the pictures you should be putting up. 3/4 views and side in good resolution - easy to see the topology and easy to do paint-overs on.

Still here!

Its been awhile since I last posted any progress here, mainly because I had some other stuff to do and then I almost “forgot” about this one!

Toyed a bit with car paints and this is what I got atm:

looks good… very clean, very simple lighting, i presume your not done with it. may i see it? i like it

Hey, lightning setup is VERY simple as you said, its just one big plane straight above the car, no other lights for now. Plane is like 3x wider and longer than car and is like 3m above the car
