Did a render to show how our book assets can be used in a scene.
The composition was a happy accident and I am really pleased with how it turned out.
I had a lot of fun creating the books and learning how to make a procedural shader and how to expose the parameters for people to use.
I am really looking forward to seeing what people do with them.
You can download the books here: Decorative_Books_01
And you can see a video on how to use them here: Explainer Video
All the assets in the render can be found for free and cc0 on PolyHaven
Thanks for the tip, Could you point me towards what tone mapping you use? TBH I threw in the node from blender and played with the settings but decided against it. I completely understand that it was my lack of understanding on the topic that was the problem, Not the node.
I don’t do archvis looking stuff too often but from what I have seen getting the correct LUT/Tone mapping is vital so I appreciate you pointing out where I can improve. Thanks!
So I personally use ACES display device in blender and it’s really useful in this case; you have good options for your view transform and also a big list of sequencers
For example, I made this scene just for test in and showing the difference between ACES & sRGB display devices:
And this one is blender default settings; sRGB as display device and Filmic as view transform
Obviously you can see the difference between these two renders and without any explanations. If you have more questions about how and why should we use ACES in our renders, you can google it easily.
Also you can find useful informations in the below links:
Great resource. Thank you.
I have used ACES in the past while working at a studio so I am a only a little familiar with the idea but it is a lot to understand so I’ll read through those links.
Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it.
All great, hope you find a useful method on tone mapping because it’s really important thing in VFX.
(I’m so so sorry because of my delay in answering:pray:t2:. I was waiting for notifications of your answer on my Gmail and this website but I don’t know what happened for notifications)
Hey John! Thank you for supplying quite a few of the covers. The magazines are really detailed. Really the hard work was already done for me when I started working on the assets so thank you!
I had a lot of fun working on them and I hope that people find them really useful.
Thanks James. I really enjoyed making both the books and the magazines. It was a fun contest to take part in and it pleases me to see how well everyone’s work turned out.
