Please remember to state if your entry is pure, open or non-competing.
“There are two main goals for these contests: Fun and Glory.
Fun: You get only 4 days to create a cool image, based on the theme for the week.
Glory: After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared. The winner picks the theme for next week and will be featured in the Feature Row.”
A little tip for anyone struggling with making a snail shell…I think you have to enable the bundled addon mesh>>extra objects. then you just go add >> mesh >> math function >> XYZ surface, and it adds a snail shell.
Blender 4.5 cycles open entry. Most assets were taken from Snail :: Spirals, and Mushroom House :: Tree by the Cave. The whole mushroom house scene is pretty much there. The satchel was made from scratch, so were were his beady eyes and teeth. The hat and the papers in the satchel, also taken from other entries.
4.5 pure
This is entirely deeppaint apart from the snail which is a sphere that has been sculpted (this is my first sculpting trial)
The shell is deeppaint over a sphere then turned into a line mesh. the Array modifier created the repeating growth of the shell. the final shell shape was tweaked, scultpted and then vertex painted
The landscape is a simple grid mesh sculpted and painted. with all other details like vegetation being deeppaint and further sculpted and painted
I’d say it depends on the details and the way the add-on was used in the creation of the entry image.
Based on the rules: “A Pure entry is made mostly using Blender. […] For the purposes of this contest, add-ons that are not supplied with Blender by default are considered external software.”
Personally I haven’t heard of deeppaint before and I didn’t research its capabilities in detail. If the add-on had a significant impact on most of the steps necessary to create the image, I’d lean towards ‘open’. If the impact was limited, I
'd say ‘pure’ is fine.
However, in the end it isn’t all that important. I’ll just add the explanation from the original post to the voting thread, so everyone can take this into consideration when voting. (Lately, I’ve started experimenting with adding comments for pure entries, anyways. :-))
Open entry. Background is an HDRI, the rest is pure.
Originally I hand-painted the snail shell, but I was hit by the very annoying “feature” of Blender which erases your texture if you do not hit the “save images” button at the right time.
The procedural texture looks way worse, but I don’t have patience to repaint it now.
