Craig's 2d painting in Blender

 Just a single metal scratch image texture used as mix/multiply/add/overlay in places, rotated around for effect. I did all the sculpting with the paint first for values, and then used Color and Overlay, and then some masked color burn. Final was the soft light and screen for the lights.

Thanks! Using the UV/Image editor as a paint tool is the same as any paint program really, but the shortcuts for the brush controls and the ability to use the same textures as you might use in a Cycles or Internal material as a brush or brush mask is really liberating.

I enjoy painting in Blender the most, and I also experiment with using the 3d view to add elements when I really get into it - but these were very fast, very sloppy paintings

short lunch break this time

So here is a file with some custom brushes for anyone that wants to give it a go

Here is a pic made from the brushes in the previous post

Dang man, you’re super productive lately. I need to quit being so lazy.

I am only working on a 1024x1024 and using the brushes I made with the procedural textures and masks, so I am rushing it. I start liek real paint with a big brush, and work my way down  If I get some good ideas, I might go to modeling a few

After what appears in the first image this is the final painting completed with Corel Painter.

@klara, not seeing anything there

I did make a new file with iconsfor the brushes I made, let me know if it works

@Craig, it’s incredible what one can pull off during lunch time
it’s even more incredible what one can paint in blender

it’s really amazing what you do… keep it up!

Thanks very much, I love the possibilities but I still want to learn more

Craig what could I possibly say that hasn’t been already. However, pushing the envelope comes to mind. The tutorials are just outstanding and please keep them coming. Amazing work all around. Have you done any work in 2.72 and 2.73 yet.

I do update as they come out, but not much has changed there except for the changes in 2.72 that brought us the rest of Psy-Fi’s GSOC Paint tools. I spend my lunch half hour painting greyscale forms and try to find something to bring out of it  Mostly in the UV/Image Editor alone, then if something needs to be explored further then I might start modeling or sculpting pieces to add. Pretty easy to use renders with black backgrounds for stencil image brushes.

I changed the file in the previous post - LightBwk noticed the pack didn’t take, hopefully the images are there now

Here is an updated version with extra brushes - using 2.73a or higher, append from this file into your project file to paint. Images made by me

Tried out recordmydesktop and got a small demo worked out

Hey I loved the tut, thank you. And I downloaded the painting pack, great work on layout etc. But OMG painting with those texture brushes was sooooooo slow.

LightBWK said he set the spacing wider like 10 or so to speed them up - I hadn’t thought of that since I usually fiddle with the spacing on purpose when painting at different sizes :o

I played a bit with compositor for effects, started with a suzanne uv map with some flats painted on from the Fill tool, and then got carried away with the lightbeams and glare

Pretty cool look. Does it refresh as you paint or do you need to stop and give it a nudge?
