looks so realistic, and great animation! awesome job!
Great renders and anim test. I really like the 3rd still.
Really great stuff. I have a crow project on the back burner but generally struggling with distributing the feathers. How do you place the body (contour) features and the secondary wing feathers? Do you use particles at all?
The head feather will be relatively fine, so I use the particle system to make, but will adjust the “Clump” to make the hair has some feather piece effect; body feather production I through the particle system under the “Rander” “Rander As” option, the hair will be replaced by the production of the feather surface, and for the surface UV and texture production, I made him Base Color, Rounghness and other textures, the most important thing is that I used Alpha mapping, so that my surface rendered the edge of the real feather Effect, when the body feathers adjusted to a certain extent, I will directly apply the body feathers into the model, so that I can modify the shape of the feathers and the degree of conformity with the body through the sculpture or lattice and other modifiers, more flexible and convenient to adjust.
Wing feather production I used the manual placement of the model piece production, because I want more accurate placement, each piece of the wing feathers are created in accordance with the real structure, in the wings I did put a lot of thought, the final will be the bone binding of each feather, and for each feather made a separate texture, so as to achieve a realistic effect. I hope this helps, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing your work.
The wings before making, I spent a lot of time to study the real structure of the bird’s wings and the structure of the feathers, and how he retracted the wings, the intermediate process of retracting the wings, etc. I think it was worth it, which brought me inspiration and direction for the production afterwards, if you will be confused in the wing production, then I suggest you can also learn about this information in detail, maybe it will bring you new inspiration.
Congratulations, this work has been nominated for the ‘Best of Blender Artists 2022’ award in the #animation category! You can vote for it here.
