Hi Blender people!
It’s no secret I’m a big Foo Fighters fan and love all Dave Grohl’s side projects.
Some time ago (…years maybe?), I started sculpting a small personal tribute to him in Blender: just his head, hair, and beard. I saved the file under a silly name (something like “test scene 1.blend”), threw it into my bottomless “unfinished projects” folder, and never opened it again.
So: 4 days ago, I found the file and challenged myself to finish it before May 1st and to stress-test my new 5070 Ti.
Summary
This week I quickly modeled an Epiphone DG-335, refined the sculpt of face, arms, hair, and clothes, made a quick rig and posed Dave.
It’s not super detailed or 100% accurate (life is too short: I’m not chasing perfection anymore!)
I set up extreme camera settings, chaged some color management values, used a simple glare and some lights (via Hard.Ops) to avoid ANY post-production.
Dave’s shader is a slightly modified version of Jama Jurabaev’s one: big shoutout to him!
I don’t remember where the body model came from (it was something super simple and basic), but the head and hair were fully sculpted from scratch.
Enjoy the results!
PS: I missed you all!
