Pause in any further route making. Time to consider the options.B

As these types of simulations can never be completed there are bound to be alterations, content added, textures replaced etc.
So far I have never seen a free downloadable interactive simulation on these forums.
As I seem to be the only one on these forums making maritime routes
It has been a case trrying to solve the problems as they arrive. Gradually I was able to create reasonble maritime routes all under 5 meg zip maximum.
It seems to be a constant battle whether to proceed with age of sail or age of steamships including paddle steamers. So still undecided. I could carry on with coastal steamships but will see if I can make the docks required. The laTest Liverpool docks c1810 worked out quite well as remade and added the lifting bridge.
B
P.S. Alhough some of the previous made routes on this page are sailing ships, future routes will be preset only. No drivable, no scenarios as I have no interest in them and forum members certainly arrn’t interested.
I will sort out the steamships routes on this page to see if they load OK and if any missing textures. I might have to include another folder within the zip file to mosT of them. To solve the dissappearing textures and re-upload the update. After that it will be straightforward as detailed.
Starting from this post I will forget the sailing-ships and pursue only the coastal steamships.
The Silloth route and docks is the first and retested it. It downloads and runs OK and as with all these routes they are up to 5 meg zip file including textures. They require 2.79b from the archives to run them them.
All these harbours were busy years back . Nowadays many have been changed into marinas. So these routes are about the past ages and bygone times, but much is guesswork and pretend.
Key 1 open the dock gates and two vesssels manoever through the and berth at the wood pier. At the same time the distant steamship is on course for the outer open dock.
Next habour following along the coast of the Solway Firth is Maryport.
Again downloaded and rechecked it and it works OK with no apparent loss of texture.
Best a brief explanation exrtracted from readme.
key 1 opens 2 sets of dock gates and starts the steamer on route from first dock into the second dock. approx. 1000 seconds. The vessel pauses for a little while on route a few times.
An additional manoeuver was also added. Due to the narrow river, ships were launched sideways from the shipyard as far as I know. For this I have a ship half on sand slope and placed a vessel to tow the vessel backwards into the docks for fitting out. To start this animation it is key 1. Previously I had this set to key 2. However depending on when you set the vessels in motion they could pass through each other. All operated with key 1.
To bring it up date we are still following the coastline out of the Solway Firth and the next route has 3 docks. Easiest to to quote an extract from the the readme.
3 different docks in this route
03 Workington, Harrington,Whitehaven
The keyboard keys for this route, 1,2,3,4,5.6.
Three ships Workington- in the distance - keys, 1,2,3,
One ship Harrington dock key 4
Two ships Whitehaven keys 5,6
Time approx. from 600 seconds to 2500 for the different routes although they might differ.
Workington top of route dock - Three distant steam-ships - two enter through dock gates. One enters the open dock. keys 1,2,3,
Harrington middle dock - One steam-ship moves from inner to outer dock. key 4.
Whitehaven dock bottom of route - one ship manoeveurs from the open dock through two sets of dock gates into dock in corner. The second ship has quite a long journey along the coast to the Workington dock at the beginning of the route. I set this to approx 2500 seconds. keys 5,6,
Some routes maybe just one key, others may use a few keboard keys to set them into motion.
Roaming camera is home/end/arrow keys.
Esc to leave.
As always use at your own risk.
Not for Commercial Use.
I think just a screenshot of Whitehaven will suffice as a a huge docks layout.
All routes about 50 for download on the various pages, all interactive, all up to or below 5 meg zip, and up to others if interested (or not). Either way doesn’t matter to me.
I think time for a prolonged pause as made many routes, all downloadable on the various pages.

pafurijaz - Thanks interesting site.
General
With the sailing vessels I have made they need the detail to make them realistic so, so looks like I will keep to coastal steamships, after switching from one to the other. With sailships many of the docks were still to be built so a lot of gueswork needed.
With the basic steamships the OSM maps will be enough with a flexible pretend era say 1850 to 1950. 3DEM for the height map and terrain, srtm2.hgt sections, greyscale height map will be enough using Blender 2.79b using displace function. All routes under or up to 5 meg zip. Maybe time to go the other way to Scotland from the Solway Firth. Startng from after Annan.
Thanks to you I hope see more in the future, I’m working with Blender for designing boats if you need some boats, there are many simple here, but they are made with blender and imported in many nautical application to perform hydro-static calculation, int future I think to add more like this one below but need a check it and ad more details and now I’m busy with an other one for a costumer.
I have a lot boats on hard drive and when I have more time I release those for free.
Many years ago now I used to have a small 21 ft sloop for a short time on the river Douglas off the river Ribble which probably started my interest. By using Blender in a basic way I eventually found out how to make these routes using simple methods.
By using instancing, Alt plus D, not shift plus D, it was possible to make complex docks and terrain based on srtm2/hgt. Also by keeping the zip file plus textures under 5 meg it was allowed, to be able to download the zip file from these pages. I started using Blender about 2004 off and on in a basic way.
It is interesting hearing about others with a maritime interest. All my downloads are free, if others wish to experiment, using the various docks and maritime routes I have made. Just not for commercial use and use at your own risk.
Many Thanks
Barry
I will be posting mon the steaships page and at present any amended versions will be version 2. Initially I need to add anchor and hoists etc . Then see about cntinuing around the coastline
For my ref.

Simulations can never be completed as there is always something to add, remove, remake, adjust, so I will carry on posting on the work in progress page page I have running. This will be sailing ships or sailing-flats and centre on the river Mersey and Liverpool docks of about 1810 to start it off. There will be different versions of the routes all under or up to 5 meg zip. I may gradually extend out into adjacent routes to the Mersey.

Copied from steamships
Question.
The routes I make are made with 2.79b and all are under 5 megabyte zip file size including the the textures in the zip file.
With the steamships I have the water sheet rising and falling a meter or so to simulate wave swell. Propellor animated to revolve and ship bridge window connected using Control plus P.
All the steamship routes have the ships moving on preset paths.
using the timeline which works fine over long distances of several kilometers.
How would I animate the vessel to roll and pitch a small amount to simulate imaginary waves? Also at the same time the vessel will be moving on it’s preset path through the rising and falling water sheet. Drivable floating doesn’t seem work as well with the steamships, unlike the sailing ships I make. Settings are rigid body for the drivable sailing ships.
Any alteration must work with the standard 2.79b edition as the routes are for others as well as myself. Once they download that once from the archives they have all that is needed need to run any of the routes as embedded.
Also to enable them to be downloaded from these pages they must be kept to under 5 meg zip size. Routes themseleves say from 10km up to about 40 km.
Thanks
Barry
If I can bring a little more realism into the ship movments I might concentrate more on sailing ships rather than the coastal steamships which are more for the docks. The realism would be enhanced if the vessels were altered to pitch and roll as well as the preset timeline movement. The constant changing is due to tp the methods I use and keeping within the 5 meg zip download limit.
I will br returning to this thread and work through the routes already made. However sail only and not the three coastal steamer routes.
Routes will start from the Solway Firth as before and maybe inlcude a simple. scenario in each.
Some routes might have a couple of versions but each will be seperate. Actual preset tracks might be different or trees and vegetation altered, different, or more buildings etc. Rivers might be opened up and vessels added. All routes will be below or up to 5 meg. maximum. zip file size for download.
Basic vessels will be sloop, sailing flat, schooner - perhaps more later.
Unfortunately I need to start looking at Blender in a different way.
As 2.79b is no longer supported the help menus, tutorials, etc., are diminishing replaced by 2.8 onwards, especially noticable when doing search on Internet
So the sailing vessel idea is no longer suitable and I won’t be making further scenarios nor any more drivable vessels.
It would be only steam-ships basic in a basic pretend era 1850-1950.
The emphasis is on past ages and bygone time as regards dock layouts that still exist today. Terrain will be basic and size as before up to 5 meg zip. So any critque will be ignored and not replied to.
These constant changes in my posts are to try and weave through a changing Blender and keep to a very few relevant features in 2.79b and nothing else. Any more detailed descriptions etc will be enclosed in readme in zip file. That is all I need. If I continue I will post here the available downloads and any amendments to steamers already made.

To start the steamship routes again as detailed - Silloth. Some few repairs. Details are in the zip01silloth03062020.zip (3.4 MB)
Route 2 of Silloth anchor, etc
01silloth2ver03062020.zip (3.1 MB)
key 1 opens dock gates and starts 2 vessels
key 2 start distant vessel on horizon
By now it has become obsolete in a short time, you could consider using UPBGE or start using Godot engine
I know about upbge, Godot etc. However all my downloads are below 5 meg. and can be downloaded from these pages. BGE has enough for me to make reaonable routes. Started Blender about 2002.
At my age the methods I am now using suit me. kis keep it simple seems the best option. The important part is the archives and back version. Once Blender has been downloaded 2.79b people who download the routes don’t need to know how to use Blender. Embedded game engine and numerous routes of mine to download, all free, at 5 meg maximum. zip.
Luckily I know all I need and it was just when searching the Internet I found the tutorials were mainly for 2.8 upwards. A changing Blender with add-ons would not be suitable for others for downloading as my routes need permanency.
Thanks B
Maryport is the next docks for the coastal steamers. Amended version.
After Maryport is the third I will try and amend the 3 docks in the 1 route up to Whitehaven.
Then a change back to sailing ships but starting at either Fleetwood or Liverpool docks (c1810) and trying to follow along the coastline.
Details and possibly screenshot will be enclosed in the zip file. B
02maryport04062020.zip (3.5 MB)
The next route made for steamships is the 3 docks in 1 route.
Workingtom to Whitehaven. Refer to download for details and screenshot of layout.
03workington05062020.zip (4.0 MB)
B
UK Circumnavigation (maybe)
01 Annan . Refer to zip file for readme and details.01annan06062020.zip (2.3 MB)
All vessels will probably be on preset track with drivable discontinued.
Solway and River Eden - Rockcliffe - sailing flat
Refer to readme for details and screenshot of preset layout. B
02solway06062020.zip (4.3 MB)
The next routes that follow on along the coast are the 3 coastal steamship routes. No point in remaking them with sail. Routes after this that follow on will either be sail or coastal steamships.
Sail ships discontinued. Drivable discontinued. Scenarios discontinued. From now onwards steamships on preset tracks. c1850 to c1950.
Routes selected depending on OSM. docks. Also depends on clarity and ease to make as no container ships, large liners, etc.
Next will probably be the Ribble with the huge single dock. Possibly also canals large and small. B
My routes are not for commercial use…
Use strictly at your own risk.
End of my posts
Due to the many factors of a changing Blender (used since about 2004) I have decided to no longer make any further content with Blender and will remove it from my computer.
But exploring ways with Blender each time a problem arises
As I regard the past as important as the future I may look at things differently. Very small routes 5 to 10 km, no docks except perhaps very early docks, no steam ships, discontinue all drivable and all scenarios. That leaves all rivers, harbours, creeks, small coastal strechs, very small preset tracks for sailing- ships , operated from keyboard. B
As I have made all the routes stretching from Solway Firth and the Border of Scotland around to the tip of England, Cornwall and Lands End I have decided to go through them 1 by 1.
So any scenarios and drivable will become preset or static floating. Textures and buildings will be added and unwanted objects removed.
Sailing ships and sailing barges only. The enclosed readme in the zip will have as much detail as possible. The very small routes still applies to any new routes I need to make, as made with 3dem, srtm2, height map and Blender grey-scale displacement. All routes below or up to 5 meg zip file.
