EdgeTown - A Race Map for a UDK Game

Hey thanks, When i Click the link to the Add-on it goes to a white page with text, nothing downloads, is it a copy-paste Job?

Another quick question: I dont think you did but did you add a subsurf? and sharpen up the edges? or is it just standard?

Thanks and again great work, you have made me want to make my own city now lol

Josh

This video shows it pretty well (that’s how I learned of the add-on): http://www.blendercookie.com/2010/09/23/tip-clay-render-addon/

As far as I remember (I’m not at home right now, so I can’t check :P) I haven’t used subsurf on anything here.
Haha, good luck ^^

Thanks for your help, this is supposed to be pretty easy lol but the links on that vid dont appear to be there, instead there is a link that leads to a text file that im guessing is the clay render add-on

Do you know anything about this? Sorry to be hassling you on your WIP thread…

Thanks again
Josh

Does your text file thing have the extension .py? If it’s render_clay.py, then that’s the add-on.
You should save that as, then open Blender, open user preferences, go to add-ons, install add-on and find the script you just saved. It should appear in the add-ons list. You just need to check the box there and save the settings. The clay render option should appear under the render tab.

More props done. Some pipes and air conditioning stuff for the roofs. Going to model some more similar things.

Beautiful work

nice pipes man  the grunge textures your using certainly fit the bill

Wow its looking as great as ever. Wish I could of been back sooner but I have been stuck without internet for a week, one very long week at that.

Thank you!
bacon_chaney: Thanks:) I’m actually writing a pdf tutorial on modeling and texturing rusty pipes. I’m going to release it sometime soon. It’s still pretty basic, so hopefully it’s worth reading :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, here’s a wip pic of the biggest ac unit:

And clay of this and the stuff on the last post:

I guess it’s all about texturing

As I’m going for this really worn out rusty look, I had a thought: what if I made the city abandoned? Or at least to have a really small population (after an incident of some sort), so most of the place would go unused.

Would be a lot more work, but this is a pretty big project already, so…
I haven’t decided anything yet, so what do you guys think? Good or bad idea?

Hmm, you could do that or you can consider the fact that this could be a part of the city that doesnt get alot of funds for repairs or replacements, but then if the part works, but just has rust on in why really replace the part right? So this could be the old part of the city. maybe some ghetto neighborhood… The clean and shiny part of the city is most likely somewhere in the center

Looks pretty good Yanneyanen.Questions…are you making stuff to a certain scale?
Like 1:1 real life or something more like 1:24th Scale and are you using Metric?

That’s actually a great idea DDD, though I’m actually thinking of making another environment which will be even more ghettoish, with smaller shack-like houses right next to each other (and on top of each other ;D). But that’s a long way from now, gotta get this ready first.

JDA: I’m using metric, pretty much 1:1, though the scale of the buildings and some of the props are a bit off right now. I’m in the process of fixing all of that right now.

I like the look of abandoned cities - they are very creepy, though it may bring to mind Zombie flicks, as that’s usually where they are seen. Beautiful work, and careful texturing.

Wow, really nice modelling and texturing work. I love super large, detailed scenes like this one. Keep up the good work.

3dmedieval: Thank you! Yep, it might bring zombie movies to mind, but maybe I’ll make a different approach  I was thinking an abandoned city sometime in (near?) future possibly, that some stray kids found and are now using as their playground (running, climbing and just hanging around).
I had a look at your tutorials. Nice stuff, gonna read them all later.

JayDez: Thanks. Hopefully I’ll have something new to show soon.

This is the start of something really awesome! The trick is to keep interested in your project–many people don’t finish their project after a while… This looks to be getting real good quick.

Wow, on the same day that I got the invitation to the college entrance exams:D I got two different proposals for indie game design projects. I hope I can do at least one of those.

The college I’m applying also wants to see 1-3 pieces of previous work, and the deadline is the 26th, so this city is out of the question. But, I thought I could finish one of the roofs and present it as an individual environment piece (I have two other works I wanna present already, but the texturing of this came along so nicely that I want to show it too).

Anyway, real updates on this project coming real soon (I hope :D)

Congratulations! I think you have enough done on this to present several images, and you have some time yet.

Looks awesome! It’s something I’ve always wanted to attempt! =)

Props, more props. Some ventilation ducts and… traffic cones? (I think they’re called that)
The ducts are made of parts, and work with arrays so I can make them longer easily (and then just add the ends).
