Feng Zhu Desert Raider/Scout/Drone Bike thing

So I decided to do some more modelling from Feng Zhu references, that guy can really draw. So this is a bike he drew, probably a desert raider/scout or something ( if some-one can come up with a better name?), see link for Fengs work.So far just modelling but plan to uv and texture fully. so far 40000 vertices all quads.

errors abound at the mo’ but crit is appreciated.

Wow! Nice job so far but there is a couple of errors. For one (and you probably already knew this), you are missing a back wheel. Secondly, the main part of the body on the picture is long on his drawing. Thirdly, When the tip of the engine meets the ski part, it seems to be more at an angle on the reference. Maybe just prop up the bike a little and make ti more at an angle to make it look better. Good luck!!!

thanks dudebot13, ja i kinda did know about the wheel, will get around to it sometime

Shot for the crit really helped me improve the model quickly, I elongated the main body and it looks much better now. The angle is an issue, the problem with the drawing is the if the model follows it exactly the front wheel won’t be able to touch the ground because the ‘sledge’ will touch first. Anyway I’ll try find a way to fix it.

ps i’ve left the faces as solid so some wierd artifacts are there that disapear when the faces are smooth.

Yes I see th problem. And the body looks a lot better. Good luck with the rest. No crits for now. Can’t wait for updates!

ok so tried to fix the angle thing and added a very basic wheel, more modelling on the weekend

In the drawing a lot of stuff looks slightly more subtle than in your model, but excellent job man.

Subtle? I don’t see what you mean. His image looks a lot like the original. Except for the angle problem but that might have to stay. But this is looking really great man! Can’t wait to see more.

updated some small details, the holes aren’t in line properly yet…

macouno: i am not sure what you mean, maybe try explain it a bit more… thanks for the crit.

Dudebot13: shot, I am pretty happy with the progress  hopefully I’ll finish the modeling this week then I can start unwrapping.

Looks great man. I do not think there is anybody who does not like Feng’ concepts and your modeling is flawless. Keep it up.

RK: shot thanks! Feng Rocks!

Just adding detail… close to finishing modeling

sup

did some basic procedural texturing just for a test… working on uv mapping now

Hey, that looks good for proceds man.

Good going, and good luck on uving it. That seems like it would be kinda hard.

Almost finished! Can’t wait to see the final product!

so i uv mapped a couple of the sections… and did some baking of the procedurals to paint over… also changed the bulbs to halos used a material off the blender repository and tweaked… got a bit more texturing to do and background…

there are still a couple of problems to fix like just under spots can see quad spit into two tri’s in render etc… and wheels rubber is baaaaddd…

Beautiful work a.vector. Feng Zhu has always been a favorite of mine.
You’ve really done this concept justice

Yea nice texturing job! I wish I could texture half that good. I can’t even texture a building :(. But I will just stick to modeling but you are great at in man! Just fix those problems and this could almost look photo real!

thanks for the comments  i kinda cheeting on the texturing: I just did very basic uv mapping to bake the procedural textures and then drew the dirt etc… over that on the actual model (in the 3d view).

the tires are driving me mad, i think i will actually have to model the tread as the edge of the tire is smooth and the bump then looks stupid…

I also tried a render with an area light instead of a sun, but shadows in the desert should be sharp i think so the sun looks better…

[edit] i also might add tracks in the sand as it looks like the bike got airlifted in

Yellow background does not work well with yellow light IMHO. I’d say- give “sand” a bit more pale color. When it comes to model itself all I can say is woooow… Lovely piece.

sup, ja i agree about the yellow, went back to red, also worked on wheels and rims… [also added track in sand… no more airlifting :)]
