General AI Discussion

Wow, this is a shockingly elitist and entirely false view of intelligence. If you think people work at McDonald’s because they’re not intelligent enough for other work, I have a bridge to sell you- and quite frankly, your mindset is gross.

P.S. IQ doesn’t mean a thing, it just measures your ability to solve puzzles. It’s not a metric of intelligence

Well, in fairness, this isn’t true at all. Bring able to solve puzzles - which is abstract thinking - is a requirement for a society to advance in many fields such as engineering, science, medicine, political philosophy, etc.

So, while it obviously isn’t a statistic that encompasses all human intelligence factors, it gives a very solid indication of success in the fields mentioned above.

I think people work at McDonald’s because they can’t work anywhere else (that is better) for the most part, I know a small amount of people do enjoy such work. I’m pretty well aware people work there because they’re students, because they got fired and don’t have a job lined up right away and someone’s breaking laws instantly firing them or something, that it’s difficult, that a lot of customers will insult you, and so on. Do I need to write more? How much do I need to acknowledge for your “elitism”?
Tell me?
People are poor, they can’t work anywhere else, their family is poor. More? More acknowledging? Is that enough?

How much? What else? You want to accuse me of saying everyone there is a drooling moron? What else do I have to say? IQ BAD? IQ BAD?

None of that matters for the argument. It would be a problem if they’re also living paycheck to paycheck, which a lot of people are in general, and their job were to be taken away. Fast food chains (I don’t think McDonald’s specifically) are automating right now, they’re aiming to replace the person who takes your order with an LLM. Maybe it will be a while before they replace whoever cleans the frier, but Boston Dynamics seem to always be making good progress.

I did not make the US military test people for their intelligence. If you don’t like it, go write them a letter or something. They reject 10-40% of the population depending on the exact IQ number you pin it on, that means 10-40% of people who are in a bad spot in life can’t get military training (which isn’t just shoot gun kill bad guy good, they teach discipline), they can’t get free college (in the US, where it’s massively expensive), they can’t be in the military as a job, and whatever else. The exact IQ doesn’t matter, and it is most likely inferred in reverse anyways (e.g. “we rejected 32% of people, so 85 IQ”). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-Ur71ZnNVk
Please include in your reply about how much of an elitist idiot I am that you disagree with Jordan Peterson’s politics so automatically anything he said ever is bad and evil!

The military and McDonald’s are jobs you can do if you need a job and have no other opportunities. If that stops being the case, that’s bad.

From the Blender Conference. How to use AI as a tool and not the other way around:

I’ve been working with Blender for quite some time now, and I want to invest more time and resources into it. However, there’s one thing that’s worrying me: the future of this industry.

As we’ve seen, when ChatGPT was introduced, it sparked protests from Hollywood writers, leading to strikes. Similarly, the emergence of AI tools for image creation has significantly impacted digital design and related fields. Now, with video AI technologies rapidly advancing, we can generate highly realistic results from just a simple text prompt.

I think this is the best place to discuss this topic. Friends, what do you think the future holds for Blender? With the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, do you think this technology could have a significant impact on 3D software and bring about changes?

Will the arrival of AI challenge the work being done in Blender, or could it even affect the market? Is investing in Blender a logical long-term decision? Please be realistic in your responses. Your opinions mean a lot to me, and I’d love to hear what you think.

About >70% of plots caming from navadays hollywood are pretty trashy, mechanically combine afready existing ideas or just boring or dumb. No wonder someone was afraid what AI can do the same job.
I dont want or try to insult protesters here, AI can affact some of them, even if they a good writers, but that future is not so near as clickbait title portraite it - good writers are still way more superior to AI.

Get as a results a tons of random stuff which barely editable. You tube currenly contain pretty a lot of AI “movies”. Check the viewercount. I don’t see people really interested.

Thats the one area which AI kind of captured. I can see some AI stuff on the commercial of some small brands and companies.
Also saw a lot of stuff like 2d icon packs in markets for videogames developers and as a pair to this - some topics on related forums where people was tired about that flood of AI crap.

I saw some pretty small and simple addons writed by chatGPT. Im personally write some for me.
I dont believe what in nearest 2-4 years AI will be able to write addon compared to best-sellers on the blendermarket.

If you speaking about creation of 3d models - i only saw clickbait stuff from bloggers, or some users, most of which cant make even a simpiest models by themselves and only because of that are so overexited about AI creating nonsensical topology and textures which not suitable for anything except “indie” games with an “old broken CRT & VHS noise PS1 era” visual style.

Because of how random it appeared, for me, it looks like some “easter egg” from AI developer, how they feel about the population in general. But if it is indeed what Gemini thinks, this pile of e-waste has no self awareness. The biggest drain on planet’s resources is technological advancement . Which with the few exceptions, is entirely self serving, with LLMs being the peak of this trend

Those models are trained on a massive amount of data. It would be a ridiculous amount of work to add something like an easter egg in there.
The reality likely is that users are trying to trick the model and find loopholes. One of them was successful.

To me, this is simply research, but they try to present it as if those are already products. In my view, there are plenty of useful applications for those models. However, none of them appears profitable to me, especially not as long as those models require the amount of resources simply to run.
One of the useful applications would be education. To be clear, I am not talking about a replacement of teachers, I am talking about being specialized helpers in certain situations.
Here is an interesting anecdote about how this might look (and to be clear again, I am not saying that existing large language models are fit to be used as is for education!):

This anecdote tell also to us that a father hasn’t 45 minutes of his life to dedicate to his son.
I’m so excited about this future…

(Please it’s not against you and what you post…in my opinion it’s just to enlarge the view)

No, a 5 liner on Twitter tells us absolutely nothing about anyone.

It’s an anecdote. Not a peer-reviewed controlled scientiic study.
And I’m not saying that person is a bad father.
Just that for 45 minutes he’s doing another thing, at least he was watching his son chatting with ChatGPT.
And his enthusiasm for this, give me the feeling that he’ll try again…but surely…everything is possible.

So parents have all the time they want for their children today, but not anymore in the future? Parents in the past never used TVs and in the past years never used tablets to entertain their children?

No worries, especially because I don’t see how this could make things worse. Even more so, because it is not in the context I mentioned.

So, the context is the specialized helpers in certain situations?
Am I right?

So a local, compact, fast, up to date, accurate Blender Python API coding LLM. How cool would that be!

I specifically mentioned an educational context and gave this anecdote as an example, to make my idea more tangible and less abstract.

All this has exactly nothing to do with responsible parenting and I don’t see how or why it should influence it negatively.

You’re assuming that a single model handles all the responses. It is online application, could easily have scripts added on top of it. Chat log is presented in the article, doesn’t look like a prompt injection

They invest millions to make the models “safe”, to avoid marketing disasters like this one as much as possible (for data cleaning, model training, prefiltering, …).
Do you really believe, they don’t have extensive code reviews for those critical aspects and would allow “easter eggs”, which would literally neglect the millions they invested to make it “safe”?

It doesn’t have to be prompt injection or anything like that. It is impossible to anticipate all situations. For many, it is a game to find those. And for the media, it is easy clickbait material.

Is it really a disaster for Google though? They can always dismiss it with “iT is StiLL lEarnING”, the trust in AI is too high nowadays. It’ll take a Chernobyl scale incident for anyone to really care about safety. And anti-humanist propaganda benefits AI community. So we’ll think we are worthless and in need of their toys to function

Yes, of course. They are selling services for those models (and fine tuned variants for specific needs as far as I know).

One of their promoted use cases is “Customer Service”. Do you really think they would place “easter eggs” in something like this?

Today I am working on a watch. I asked ChatGPT to come up with some help for the Aventurine Glass Shader for the dial. Here is the generated node graph:

It made my day
