Hello again. This might be my second attempt at getting into this community. I forgot about blender when my desktop died. Now I have a laptop and trying to get back into 3D.
Save some money for a backup. $25.00 a month could get you a newer computer in about a year.
I am already in the process of getting a Mac Book Pro. I also have an old Lenovo which has Ubuntu on it right now.
It would be better to avoid using a mac for blender. Blender might not be able to run on it in the near future: macOS is deprecating openGL
Blender renders faster in linux and windows 7 than in windows 10. Since you are using ubuntu already, I recommend buying newer used hardware and running a linux distro on it. Maybe elementary os? Personally I like to use debian and the cinnamon desktop environment.
wow thats really bad news my pc just did 3 weeks ago and i was thinking of buying a mac ?
Regardless of the openGL issue, macs are sort of overpriced anyway. In my opinion people just buy them for the UX and brand appeal. There are a lot of cheaper alternatives out there that are at least as good. Personally, I only build my computers from used parts.
i had that i dea but after having a field trip on the markits, building a pc is more expensev than buying a new one where i live
You can pick up a used i5 or i7 from eBay for good price.
yeah?
but i live on medal east, i dont think thy can ship it for me
I’m not a mac expert, but you are supposed to be able to configure them to dual boot (with something called bootcamp?). If you can’t find a non mac for a good price, then maybe you should just buy the mac anyway and try to make it a dual boot system.
yeah goot point
Talking about macs. Mac OS systems have a program called parallels. It’s an abstraction layer to run windows software on macintosh. Also, there was a project for an abstraction layer to run linux programs on macintosh. You might check and see if they are working with your programs of choice. And also, you may need to check and see if tablet and tablet pressure is working on those abstraction layers. Blender works under wine, and parallels is supposed to be better than wine. I don’t know if it can give you tablet and tablet pressure. I know wine does not, although there is a work in progress for it. If the linux abstraction layer is current, then it probably has near perfect support of linux OS. But I don’t know what problem they could have had, example XWindows.
EDIT: You might also want to ask the people in your region, what type of computer they use. If most are using mac, then maybe it’s best. If they are not, then you might do better with what they use. It’s what you would expect to find in the work place.
