His Final Piece

Hi there!

This was my first scene made on Blender when I started about 2 months back after watching the donut tutorial. Modelling the astronaut was a nightmare at the time but this tutorial from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-2tovqhY1w definitely helped. It’s a completely different model but it taught me what methods to use to create the suite.

Other than that, it’s a simple scene - “Here rests a being who had one final symphony before becoming a colossal remnant of the past.”

Feedback is always welcome!

Another neat render! Your skill level bugs me a little, cause I’ve been using Blender for almost 3 years and I’m nowhere near this good.:rofl::sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

A bit of a nitpick, but the scale of the image isn’t very clear. I “discovered” the little guys by the bottom right by accident, and the tiny birds hovering around the mega astronaut’s head only registered after that. Dunno if these were left in the render as easter eggs, but if you want to sell the scale more, I’d suggest putting the camera at the same height as the humans in the bottom right corner and tilt it waaaaaaay up. Right now, it’s not very clear what the camera is resting on or where it’s located, so everything feels like it’s at a normal scale with a couple of Borrowers in the bottom corner

Edit: I just realized how much your render reminds me of an old Far Side cartoon (not a great image, but bear with me):

Haha thanks man, well being an architecture student I’ve been using modelling and rendering software for a while, you can check out my other work on this - https://www.instagram.com/_abhijit_181/

Ah yes, I tried out several camera positions and also tried the ant like perspective but that ended up making the image fell quite warped. But yeah I get your point, this is kind of straight on camera and doesn’t quite sell the actual scale of the poor astronaut

Haha that cartoon is quite accurate, actually spot on

The power in this scene is great, not much detail within the surrounding area alone but that really feeds into the atmosphere of it! The main attraction is so well made, the decay on the piano is stunning and feels natural, the lighting is dramatic and sets the scene really well. Lot’s of talent put into this!

Great comment on some great artwork.

May I add, as a musician, I cringed a little at the fact that the piano has only white keys…

Or were you being specific?

Ah yes, that would be a mistake from my end.
It was my first scene on blender I did about a month ago and I’ll be frank I did not know how to add those keys in between.
But now when I think of it, it was probably quite easy
Funny thing is I used to play the piano for about 10 years a while ago

You’re a man of many talents, it seems.

It actually isn’t too hard… just model one octave and use an array modifier

Ah yes that is easy now, I think for making these keys I loop cut the whole thing and individually extruded the gap between each key

Thanks though, i’ll keep that in mind!

You are dedicated, no doubt. It’s very impressive, I’ve had a look at your insta.

Ah thanks a lot

Ahhh, but the astronaut in the render was a Dark Souls fan, and you only need white keys to play Plin Plin Plon (highly specific joke, but if you get it, you get it. :joy::joy:)

Hi Everyone,

Here is the “Behind the Scenes” article of this poignant artwork!

Do check this article written by the artist himself. It describes the process of making the artwork step by step, and an insight on creating realistic scenes in Blender.
