I have just upgraded Discourse and have enabled the new (experimental) lightbox setting. Please test and let me know if this improves things for you. Thanks!
Windows 11 Opera, Vivaldi and Chrome (all current versions) work fine IMO.
Two notes:
- Switching in zoomed mode to to the next image leaves zoomed mode, but still can be entered again
- UI arrows arent present in zoomed mode in all of them ( but arrow keys work)
Fullscreen and new tab options work aswell. Nice!

If you use a translator on the page, it will not work completely. ( Microsoft Edge) 
There were other problems before, but image viewing worked well.

If you are using a translator on that page, there is no problem viewing the image.
If you use a translator in the list and go to that page, you will not be able to view the image and will stop when you try to go to the list.
This has not occurred before.

I have noticed that when the OP uploads a very large image 3meg or so, the wait time for screen display is just too muchâŠor it never clears after waiting for over a full 1-1/2 minutesâŠ
