Little Line Art Cottage

My first ever attempt to do some NPR rendering and my first attempt to use the line art modifier. This is quite a simple image and my intention was to start small. I wanted to go for a line and wash type image, but it has come out a little more illustrative (I think). I think its quite a ‘nice’ image (albeit not a complicated one) and I like the style so may be something I seek to persevere with and improve on. The line art modifier is pretty cool but needs some experimentation, which I enjoy! Onwards and upwards
Rendered in eevee, colourised and post processed in photoshop (using shadow, AO, bloom passes to help with shadows, highlights etc in PS). Trees and bushes botaniq, but with different materials and custom normals (although I actually just used cryptomatte masks in photoshop, so the materials were a little moot).

Composed, processed and cropped image

(Sort of) The composited output - pre-colourisation and post processing (sort of)

AO Pass

The line art pass (I avoided applying the modifier to the trees and it froze my machine and, when it did work, it didn’t look very good… also think its better to focus on the solid objects (some lines were added in PS where I missed them in Blender!)

Shadow pass.

This is beautiful, nice work! This looks like a postcard I would send to someone I really like  incredible job with this

That’s lovely.

I think that it was absolutely the right choice not to do lineart on the trees; it’s IMO aesthetically a better image this way.

The first image in the stack, the tall one with birds in the sky, is a fantastic image. Absolutely love the look, feel, and composition of it. The others “feel” too squat, or like they’re missing something.

Anyway - nice work! I’ve liked it so I can always come back to find it later.

Congratulations, this work has been nominated for the ‘Best of Blender Artists 2022’ award in the #npr category! You can vote for it here.
