Mac: M3 - *Hardware accelerated RT (Part 1)

Yeah I might be too, it is a shame the new pricing policy is nuts I will not pay 3.5k.
At least before you could get a more limited version for like 800-900.

Same here. I can’t imagine products like C4D, Keyshot and similar overpriced products will have a long life to live with powerful alternatives like Blender emerging.

Most ppl just use pirated version, it’s hard for c4d to earn money if they lower the price. I should thank blender for giving me a chance to learn these 3D stuff

C4d is much better than blender? Why do you need c4d?

It would be great if someone can use the blender plug-in to let us know how the m1 gpu perform. The plug-in is free. Thanks. The link to the plug-in is above. Octane is limited to one gpu. And redshift one gpu with watermark

I don’t think that the software matters (mostly) but how you use it.

After that it just comes down to UI preference or workflow.

I am very impressed with blender, used to be a 3dsmax user but just getting back into 3d… and well 3dsmax does not work on osx

Was considering Maya indie version but Blender is free

C4D has some interesting strengths I can imagine exploring if the price would be very reasonable for a small-scale freelancer. I also like to jump ship every once in a while, learning new tools and get inspired again.

:slightly_smiling_face: If the price is very reasonable and I support a motivated developer with it, I don’t mind spending some money. For example, I recently upgraded to MoI 3D version 4, although I don’t know if I’ll be frequently using it again, as I once did.

But my most eagerly anticipated new tool will probably be free again: SDF Edit. :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

never heard about SDF but it sure looks interesting

yeah I get that too I bought this https://3dcoat.com/ but for some reason I cant get ā€œintoā€ it

Haha, yeah, I also own 3D-Coat. It’s a fine piece of software, but the UI / UX can be a bit confusing, with lots of text in messy dialog layouts.

The main thing that made me move away from 3D-Coat is that the ā€˜feel’ of brushing is just not the same as in ZBrush or Blender’s Sculpt Mode, particularly in the Voxel mode. Speaking in analogies, 3D-Coat feels like sculpting with mud, while ZBrush and Blender feel like sculpting with high-grade clay.

3D-Coat’s Autopo is quite a potent auto-retopologizer though, almost on par with Quad Remesher / ZBrush ZRemesher.

Haha, but whats worse is, that whenever yout got ā€œintoā€ it , it decides to kick you out.

Yeah 3d-Coat gives me bad flashbacks of Softimage XSI, which I remember as less confusing but did not enjoy either.

I just published a new tutorial on my channel where I was cleaning up and organizing a messy mesh I bought on line with Houdini’s tools. Now I wonder if I should be trying 3DCoat instead. I don’t really need modeling, what I do need is a solid UVUnwrapper (sorry…the Blender one sucks) and ideally a way to decimate and optimize meshes as automagically as possibly since some of these Artstation models come in at ridiculous poly-counts.

The best auto-retopologizer is Quad Remesher, which is the same as ZBrush ZRemesher. Quad Remesher is available as a Blender add-on. The price for indie artists is very reasonable. See this thread for more info.

I haven’t really dug into 3D-Coat’s UV unwrapping tools, but I do know that it’s got some of the best tools for manual retopology and texturing (PBR texture painting, smart materials and more). And as I mentioned 3D-Coat’s Autopo comes close to Quad Remesher / ZRemesher. So it’s definitely worth considering for these purposes.

I don’t know if there’s a trial version. I’d expect so. In that case, I’d advise you to try before you buy.

@Midphase:

Yes there is a demo available

Exoside QuadRemesher Demo:

If you are less out for some autoretopology i found some of topogun3s new features very convincing. But its not done yet:

That is a very good analogy on how 3dcoat feels to sculpt. It is great for constructing a lot of things with voxels, especially hard surface. But it’s not great at handling soft surface type of sculpts, even in Surface mode there is something about the falloff of the pressure and the brushes that feels too harsh.

Yeah, exactly.

By the way, sorry for deviating from the main topics, guys. Let’s get back to Mac. :slightly_smiling_face:

. Ok then lets do something to heal this thread. Recently read this and as it might be of interest here, there’s some new footage on their upcoming 8+2+32 soc and a new MacPro soc with up to 32+8+128 cores on bloomberg, if its now M2 or not.

WWDC is nearing. I really hope a larger, more powerful iMac will be announced there.

Yes really not that long anymore. :slightly_smiling_face: And yeah I also think a stronger iMac might very well be announced. Really time for some good news after ikea catalog has been discontinued. Still have my book book.
