Use subsurf modifier! I can do a demonstration in a few hours.

Either a subsurf modifier, or modeling that uses mathematical surfaces instead of meshes. The latter suggestion might “feel a little more exotic,” but it really isn’t. Because of their nature, curves naturally produce very smooth shapes. (And, the results can be converted to meshes, if you need to.)
