Moleculars physics

pyro, do you have your dirt bloc file available? i’d like re-sim/re render it using maybe more millions just to see how it looks. did you use vector blur on it?

also any news on the substep calculator you talked about?

Yes , just need to find time to rebuild all the samples files correctly and put a bloc of dirt in it. For the substep calculator , it’s there if you download the latest version now.

you can send me a PM, or are you going to release the file publicly?

I haven’t download molecular yet, I just want something to get started, + i’m curious to see what it looks like with maybe 8mil.

I’m going to be making snow eventually, I wonder if I can get a cycles sss cycles working on it? I want to imitate this https://vimeo.com/55040689

Some more playing around, now with settings that work.

Here is another one - with a strange problem…

it’s did this only at render time or in your opengl view too ?
I never see that before :frowning:

Awesome project! I dropped a few credits your way trough your homepage.

Keep up the good work & I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes on any progress 'cause it sure looks useful!

I have problem with OSX i can’t execute simulate here are screens for button and error
error is at first after that button turns grey and not respond.
btw. i renamed script becaues init.py didn’t work as instal addon so i renamed it, i tryed 2.68 , 2.69 64 bit and 32 bit versions get the same result maybe rename is the problem but i can’t instal it using that name.
thank you for help!

i’m having problem to execute script simulation [molecular script OSX 64 bit version], here are the screens

At first i get error after that button is not responding, I tried OSX- 2.68 , 2.69 64-32 bit versions get the same result.
I renamed script from init.py to molecular.py because init.py won’t instal as addon it won’t appear so i renamed it after that I instaled it and got error.
thank you for addon and please help

Awesome ! Thanks for work !! The website is dead ?

Back now ! Mistake in the renewal of my domain. thanks

Hi Pyroevil! i’ve a question, i’m try to make some soil falling o a table, but i would like to make it with objects different from uvsfere. when i try to do it they don’t react each other based on their real form but allways as sfere. it right? i’m doing something wrong? i also activated the rotation-dynamic in particle system but it make strange rotations. Any tips or is a limitation of particle system?
thanks!
your addon is awesome

Molecular is created to be fast and memory effective with high numbers of particles (100k and more… like millions). So like many system for fluid/granular ( houdini , lagoa … etc ) , the collission shape of the particles is sphere and rotation is don’t take in account. This is not the goal of this kind of system. For rotation I’m also limited because Blender don’t allow to control them very well. If you want precise collision and rotation on each elements , you are better to use rigidbody with the constraints addon ( not by me ) if you elements counts is low ( probably below 50k ).

Sorry about this limitation and hope my answer help you a bit

Molecular 1.0.2 now available! Nothing new except it’s compiled to work with python 3.4 , the version bundled with Blender 2.71!

Sorry for the delay but getting stuck with some compiling problems ( thanks to scorpion81 to find a solution!)

GREAT! Everything ok with new 2.72? I hope so, love you Pyro!

I was wondering having just seen your remesher in combinatin with molecular… is this going in the direction of a point cloud ?
As i saw here some math for generating clouds, http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems/gpugems_ch38.html

Inspirational!!! I shall have to wait for when I have built my next computer to try this. Posting render times as that has proved the point. A good surfacer in Blender will be great. Thanks for all your hard work since 15!

This addon is a must have. I tried metaballs as a surfacer with this addon and the results are not bad, only problem is metaballs take up too much system resources.
Here’s the result of the test:

Hi,
I´ve been experimenting with this great Addon for a while and have managed to generate some quite cool simulations.
However, I now want to create simulations with a few more particles than before, but my computer keeps running out of memory.
I read that some people create simulations with a million or so particles without running into ram problems.
I have set my particle systems to Disk Cache but Blender still keeps filling up my memory. The way I understand that is not supposed to happen as the particle simulation should only be stored on rhe hard disk.
When the memory is full Blender quits and I get a Windows error telling me that the Computer doesn´t have enough memory and I need to save my files and then start them new.

The simulation doesn´t even have that many particles. 38 000 to be precise.

Here is a clip of the simulation I have managed to create with less particles as well as my particle cache settings.
What am I doing wrong?

I´m using the current stable version of Blender, that is 2.73a.
System:
Windows 7
I7 2600K
16 Gig Ram

hello ; thank you very much for molecular
no update for this script ?
