Mouse & Dragon

Hi all,

I just created this scene based on another awesome concept by Derek Laufman

For the dragon, i started to model a single low poly section of the body and put an array along a path following the curve of the dragon body. Then I collapsed it and attached the feet. After that I sculped the details in and applied some bump maps to the spikes.
It took me some time to get the lighting right. It is a fairly complex scene, with a lot of detail going on, but I wanted it to work as a thumbnail as well.

I hope you like it. Feel free to comment

This is a super fun scene! Any chance you have a closeup shot of the mouse? I’d love to see that.

Great work, congrats.

Perfect, cheerful expression of heroism: fun & inspiration in a single image - makes all of Harry Potter, The Hobbit, etc. redundant. Also (unfortunately) a hint of how to approach today’s politics, too?

Do more. The world needs you.

Would be super nice if we also could see the reference image

EDIT
Guess this is it. Very impressive, you have captured it really well.

lovely work !!!
i wonder how did you do the stack of gold ?

The stack is just a low poly plane modeled into place with a particle system to emit coins, rotated along the normals with some random value. After the particle system i used a displacement modifier in the modifier stack to push the surface of the plane back down a little. The plane is just there to fill the gaps between coins. Hope this helps

Yes this is it! I just loved the compsition and the story behind it. But i thought a more moody dark tone would suit the scene, so i tried to go for a night shot. To guide the view i replaced the sword with a magick staff emitting light and thought the dragon could be moments before spitting fire so i just put a light in it’s throat

I love it the lighting is nice, and the colors are really vibrany.
