New WIP - Update #15 - Pg. 6 - Jan. 21

BTW, here is the concept art that I am using for the reference.

Again, this is my interpretation of the concept, so don’t start nailing stuff that’s in the concept vs. what I have done.

BgDM

looks tasty. you really got the look of ivory on those tusks. what about adding an emit map and giving him some glowy bits?

Beautiful beastie.

The texturing on the head is amazing, but it has that huge jaw/neck and while the its texturing is well done it is rather plain. It would be nice to see a few features on it to bring it up to the level of the head. Some warts, scars, fatty folds, whatever. Even just a bit more colour variation, like you have done on the head.

So if that is the walrus, where is the egg man?

very nice modeling and texturing btw.

Update:

OK, texturing basically done on the head. Have to get the eyes sorted out now.

Modron: hmmmmmm… an emit map, eh? Might not be a bad idea. I’ll see what I can do.

Surt: Thanks. As for the bottom portion, typically in all areas of animals, the head/face area has more colour than the rest of the body. But I see your point. I will see what I can do. Maybe this render looks better in that regard?

Hippie: LMAO! Good one. :stuck_out_tongue:

BgDM

Lookin’ good, the tusks tex is great. Maybe add some blood?

Update #11 - Skin Textures Done

http://bgdm.katorlegaz.com/NewWIP/013.png

OK, skin textures done, unless you all have any major issues with it.

Time to get this one done and put to bed.

new_neo: lol, sorry man. no blood for this one. :stuck_out_tongue:

BgDM

Wow nice work. How did you manage to do that in only 2 hours? I can make a gingerman in 2 hours.

Well, the lower part looks like some sacking material and the tusks remind me of moldy cheese rather than ivory.
Also, how about giving him fatter lips?

Sorry, I just thought of it now…
Other than that, it looks really good:)

Horrible, just horrible. Ugh, I can’t stand looking at such a horrible model

This aside, the model and texturing so far is excellent. It reminds me of some sort of mutant squid oand D&D Illythid creature (except they have several long tentacles for for noses). I would add more detail to the “beard” (what the hell is that in the first place :D)

I can’t wait to see the complete aberation that’s coming

Aw, come on. I was just trying to help him make it even better!

It reminds me of some sort of mutant squid oand D&D Illythid creature (except they have several long tentacles for for noses).

Ah yes, the mind flayers. Not as much a lookalike as a Glukkon, bu t still

Wow BgDM great work, i dident like the crow or that vampire much but this is awsome, only crit is that the, flap or top lip is a bit to thin, but if its the look your looking for thats still cool. do what you think looks best because chances are it will.

Hi BgDm
I;m really liking your character and the texturing looks great, but i cant help thinking,“He kinda reminds me of some one” then it hit me…he,he,

I know,i know.there not the same,but i think they may be related :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway,Awesome job,i’d like to see the body aswell when your done…
Keep on the great.

ONE!

Ok, we need to cut that out, we’re totally hijacking his thread.

The color mapping is just wonderful! That is the greatest strength I think. Texture work is also great.

Very nice work!
For some reason it seems [maybe just to me lol] that the nor is a little too intense on the lower part of him

No updates, just some replies.

Milky: Well, after you get used to modelling, (it has taken me about 5 years to get there  ), things flow easily and you can get the shapes you want fairly quickly. Just take your time and learn the basics and proper topology and all will come in due time.

mikemayday: Maybe I need to tone down the NOR value on the bottom portion? The tusks I think just need a bit more translucency and tone down the colour map a bit soe again. I’ll see what I can do about the lip as well. I tend to agree with you there and never thought of it either.

Aidan: hmmm…didn’t like the Crow, eh? Oh well. Guess you can’t please everyone. I am going to get back to him and finish him off here soon. Lips are based off of the concept drawing, so not much that I am going to change on them. Just see if I can fatten up the bottom lip a bit is all.

Woodman5k: Thanks!

Mattimus: As I said above, I think you are maybe correct too. I’ll play with it and see how it looks.

Update #12:

Start of the cloak and necklace.

BgDM

Man your textures are spectacular, I have the hardest time creating good textures, care to share what method you used to create them, no need to go into to detail though
Thanks,
Jimmy

georgous work dude! modeling and textureing and lighting look awsome, this guy has tons of character!

only crit would be that the texture looks like its filled with wrinkels and bumps, while the models surface looks very flat and smooth. is it possible to make those wrinkels stand out with bumps and wrinkels on the actual model. would be tons of work to add all that in but i think it would really bring the model to life.

i did not advance much in texturing, but i was always under the impression that once you added a texture to a model, you could hit a button in blender (i thought it was called bump map), then it would develop lines and bumps on the surface for you? is that true?

i saw a model of a spider on cg talk and it had a smooth surface. and the guy textured it and did somthing and the surface then had tons of nasty bumps and growths it looked awsome, was that all done by hand, or was that bump map?

i dont know what i’m talking about really, just an idea. but awsome work altogether, i really dig your creature creations, i would rank him up with @ndy’s moon guy (which totally rocked!).
