Procedural Green Onyx Material

Hi, can anyone help me out with a procedural Green Onyx material? It’s hard for me to even understand visually what is happening inside the stone to be honest, having only seen it in pictures online.

Hi,

Is that what you mean?

If so, you could follow this one tutorial up above and then just switch the color to the green one.

Here’s the hex colors for green onyx called Sherwin-Williams Green Onyx:

Hope it helps

Cheers,
Sergey

There are all kinds of Green Onyx. Different batches of the stone differ a lot. You must include images of what exactly you are after if you want to get any meaningful help.

It will be extremely difficult to replicate procedurally and even see and recognise all the patterns of this material. You will not be able to just quickly and effortlessly make it procedurally. It will require some effort and time even with the help of a few experienced node experts. If you just need to use it in a project, you will definitely be better off using images found online, or maybe taking photographs of it if you manage to find a local place who stock it. You can combine multiple images in Photoshop or other image editor and use various AI tools like upscalers and inpainting to achieve good results to make textures for it.

That being said… a thread about creating it procedurally surely looks like a lot of fun.

Could you share some more context like what you need it for and example photos please?

Yes sorry my bad.

Edit: Something that works in Cycles would be preferable. Also if you enjoy this kind of thing we can try opal after

Oh, that’s kind of boring then. I was thinking about these:

I like the first one.

But easier to make. So good for you then.

Yeah kinda marble feel to it, I quite like the 7th one. But the boring one first maybe :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Yeah, but do you want to make a gemstone for jewelry or stone material like for a kitchen worktop?

They make all sorts of green onyx tiles:

And slabs are used in all sorts of ways in interior designs:

I have been asked to make the material for interior visualizations a few times. I would not dear to start thinking about a procedural texture for that with a deadline of a visualization project.

This reminds me of this thread:

Here is a new try in 4.0 you need 3.6 or up to open. It is a variation of moony’s last post.

A stone for jewelry, exactly as the picture I provided. Has a nice kinda deep cloudy look to it

Those bathroom tiles are pretty sweet not gonna lie, very nice.
