Color experimentations are in my ‘to do’ list. ) Thank you for your feedback!
There is a german saying:
“Ein guter Künstler macht auch mit einem schlechtem Pinsel gute Arbeit.”
A good artist creates good work, even with a bad paintbrush.
You = really good
Your computer = really shitty
Also i know this is due to me thinking in stereotypical patterns, but when i saw your work in the top row, i immediately thought that “this must be the work of a crazy Russian”.
There is something about the aesthetic which triggered this, but i can’t put it into words.
Neither the amount of detail and quality nor the fact that my prejudice was correct surprised me the slightest.
Doing it with such an ancient machine…damn.
Wow, man thank you! ) BTW, i am half georgian, half russian, but i’ve lived in Russia my whole live, so yes, i guess i can be called “crazy russian”
Comment like yours make me want to keep up with my art, despite my shitty machine. )
I was hesitating to call you that, after all i wouldn’t want to offend you. But after seeing the actual model itself…dayam man! You are a little crazy. The amount of detail you put in this model is insane. That is cinema level quality right here.
Keep doing stuff like that, never stop.
Try to get some commercial work so that you can afford an monster machine of an computer.
You have the talent, and with this in your portfolio you should get attention.
Nah, i was not offended at all, quite opposite. ) I am still in developing of my modeling skill, speed and design, so i am gonna try harder and push further. ) Thanks again man your kind words.
First time using Blender and your first Blender project !? WOW, really impressed with that. And I like the character as well. Superb detail
I’m still struggling to move cubes around! and I’ve been using ( trying ) to use Blender for a couple of years
TURK
I bet you can do much better than that. ) Thank you, glad you liked it! )
Thanks Nik,
Yeah, I can do a little more than just moves cubes around !
But in all honesty, I’m no way near your skill level … Hope to be some day though
Many thanks for sharing.

Holy smoked dude! Thats one epic model, first i thought it was for another mech addon release, the thumbnail already looked very intriguing. Than i checked the thread and was stunned by the amount of detail. For a newbie to Blender you have done a superb image i think. I mean, there are so many tools and options, a lot is hidden. The real power is all the addons available.
PS there are quite some killer ass addons you could user for better scene management. Amarant Tools, Super Grouper, Layer Addon. Edit Linked Files, UV magic, ALign & Distribute, UV_Tools. There are so many more. These are the once on realy most have.
Than take a look at HardOps and Mech Addon. They fit this project perfect!
Well done bro, really like !!!
You seem to have mastered quite well, what was your time frame of learning? Having 3d experience does help, but can also keep one back.
PS how cool you even added a link to the model. Im going to try this for sure, im not using Cycles though. Hope my other engine will make it look as this one. Dang the file is big, lots of tex and geo i guess. Hope my macbook pro wont fry hahahah
Excellent stuff man! good art
Thank you for naming add-ons, never heard of some of them, i’ll check them out. )
Actually, it was not too long for me to learn blender at level i am now. I don’t know many things still, especially related to animation and rigging, but otherwise it was not that painful to switch from 3ds max. Working in max… well… to be honest, i hated that thing. It so clumsy, it constantly crashed, i could watch half of episode of “Game of Thrones” before it loads up… and then i downloaded blender, and it loading in seconds on my crappy hardware. So i am ‘whaaat?’… ) It took some time, couple of months maybe, before i memorized all modeling related shortcuts, and this hotkey-based workflow was just what i searched for. )
Glad you liked model! ) Thank you for commenting!
Thanks, all you guys too kind to me, such inspiration to create more stuff. )
Seriously, this is what still gets me after 2.5 years. Blender is like a hundred something MB in size, tiny, loads in an instant and has countless abilities including video editing? It’s absurd. How?
Great work on this piece.
Thank you! Your add-ons demos are also constantly give me that ‘whaaaat’ thing. They are awesome. )
I feel you nikvili… Blender had the same effect on me. Felt like discovering heaven on earth back then. (still does tbh!)
Your Police Unit effing rocks! absolutely top row stuff!
Thank you! ) I never even thought of going back to max… and i really don’t give a ** about all this ‘industry standart’ thing. I just love working in blender. It is not just about 3D software. I wish all software be like blender. What i mean is - light, fast, no floating windows, and i like delete shit with X.
Whats with the normal map btw, i use a different engine and the seams are very noticable. I tried looking at the material and my guess its optimized for using displacement or something. Without it i get a super weird result. You can see those seam lines whn preview the tex on the mesh.
wow the amount of detail is really crazy
Oh, yeah, normals are kinda messed up… they needed to be baked in “Non-color” color space, and then image node itself switched to ‘Non-Color data’, but i did not knew that back then. I just baked it as usual, and in worked in Cycles, so i went with that. My bad. Here’s link to file with sculpted parts of the model, so you can rebake normals properly:

It was fun making them, process in blender is pretty fluent. )
from the look of this work i would guess that youv been using blender for a very long time, ,but thats means your supper pro that you even mastered this in no time ![]()
