Real-Time GPU Smoke & Fire Simulation

Been working on a tool for real-time smoke and fire simulation running directly on the GPU. Everything runs interactively in the viewport tweak parameters and see results instantly. Works on any GPU (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel). Still a work in progress, feedback welcome!

So, RTX-5090?

j/k :joy_cat:

Looks pretty neat, works on Metal, too?

Is it possible for the shading to be non-realistic (example:)

havent explored fully stylized fires but the current setup allows changing of colors:

Hi, this is exciting. It is fast and looks good. As far as Blender as a project is concerned, I feel what’s lacking is integration with other systems, and ability to art-direct simulations. Geometry nodes is the obvious candidate for such an integration, but has no GPU backend. In any case, if that’s just a personal project, best of luck and I’m looking forward to seeing more of it

Cheers

Added custom mesh emitter support:

Cool ! what do you plan next ? Do you have some specific test scenes for checking behaviour in different contexts ? like an animated character on fire or something ?

Hmm, no specific tests scenes yet… Im currently trying to get basic features done. ATM, working on multi emitters. Next maybe force field objects.
The system already supports Geometry nodes (realized instances) and animated meshes with armatures

Neat.

Does that include alembics? I’d be really curious to see this in more realistic scenarios. I could supply a cache if you don’t have one at hand, see how it fares on a character?

Look very promising! Any chance of seeing a basic explosion example?

oh lets try!! please send! Thanks so much !

maybe someday

Looks so bad

Tried increasing the speed of flame.

I like how instantly we can switch emitters

Better fire?

oooh, looks gorgeous. Are you working off of specific papers ? doing your own thing ?

The animated character above looks great, I think it’s a much more telling way of showing off the simulation. I’ll put out an alembic asap since you seemed enthusiastic about it.
