Sebring-Vanguard Citicar / Comuta car

Originally produced in 1974, Citicar is the most successful electric vehicle ever produced before Tesla entered the market. This car was way behind it’s time having futuristic design and incredible features as wobbly hull and a WIPER.
Yes, it looks plasticy because the body of original car was make out of plastic.
2x2k + 2x1k maps for the exterior, 2x2k for the interior, 20k and 20k tris for each respectfully.
That was a fun little project to work on, I hope you’ll like the hilarity of this vehicle.

I saw one of these for sale on craigslist a few years back, it needed a lot of work, but I was tempted…

I never heard of this car, and it’s so ugly you have to love this thing

Looked up the history of this little car, and it’s really interesting. Thanks for that!
And great renders, it really captures the original car. :+1:

Hi everyone,

Here is the “Behind the Scenes” article of this stunning artwork!

Do check this article written by the artist himself. It describes the process of making the artwork step by step with an insight on making realistic vehicles in Blender.

Thanks,

The whole work is superb, and I am particularly in love with your material work. I had to check the wireframes a couple of times to see all you’ve baked into the normals and the roughness alone.
Can you share what you’ve used as software for that?
Incredibly optimized model and stunning work overall

Oh thank you! I wrote a few articles on the matter!

What I’m using is Substance Painter and it’s basically like an onion - iterative work to add layer upon layer until the deadline will stop me from that
