Sega Genesis

Update 3: The game cartridge is finished for the most part, and I need to add some details to the console, the thing is that sometimes tiny details may mess with your topology.

Update 2 : Hello!, I have almost finished the game cartridge, but I need pictures mainly from the top of the cartridge of Castle of illusion, golden axe and ghouls and ghosts, I hope someone can provide those pictures, thank You!.

Update : Hi friends! This has been a looong journey, but as I am about to finish it , I would like some critique no matter how hard it is welcome, as in the lighting, scene, etc, thank You in advance.

OLD: Hi! Just to share with You my latest WIP, dedicated to the sega genesis, in the 90´s there was the amiga 500, and then there was the sega genesis and its fantastic beat´em ups, I had an snes but I did not like it that much, I am currently working on the game pad and later I will add some details to the console. Best Regards friends.

Nice work! What part have you found the most difficult so far?

Hi!, Thank You for replying. Being The sega genesis a mix of curved, flat tilted planes and partly spheric areas , I found it very hard in several parts, but I would say the intersection between the back and the top took me a lot of time, Later i will upload how the mesh looks with the wireframe enabled.

Ok, cool. Yeah, I’d be interested to see it  I modelled a Megadrive a while ago, and found ALL of the curves a pain! Once I’d finished the console, I thought that was the hardest part done with. Nope. The controller was even worse :joy: Very satisfying to complete though.

At last! The most powerful machine in the universe modeled in Blender!
This is the most Cool console ever made and you captured all of it!
I still have my Mega Drive and and still play on it on Sundays mostly. Need to get occasionally some power trough the Blast processor!

HI! Thank You. The blast power is such that I will need more time and a better cpu to render it, anyway I enjoy playing golden axe every other year, such a great game!.

Hi!, been a bit busy but here You are, a wireframe from behind my mesh. just yesterday I was reading a post about cylinders and shading issues. Regarding this work, after several tries I first started with the back and top, the issue is tha being oh so many parts intersecting at awkward angles, it is hard to get all fine, I guess that when dealing with cylinders and curved surfaces We must get sure to add enough geometry to avoid headaches.

Masterful lighting and materials and setting. This looks exactly like a (pristine …) actual device.

Thank You, I really appreciate your kind words.

I will start adding some details and I´am half way the game pad.

Hi!, regarding the gamepad, it´s a pita to model as You said, but the entire console is that way, the thing is that it is very entertaining and enjoyable, I hope to have the meshes finished by sunday night.

Hi there! You were right about golden axe 3. I played it out of curiosity and although Gilius Thunderhead whom is my favorite character is not playable, the game is more arcadey than ever before, still I would say my favorite is the first one. then the third and I found the second one a bit lacking, anyway, good luck and Bye for now.

The game pad it’s looking great! Nice work!
The curvatures seems accurate, the materials feels right… although the D-pad, at least compared to mine, feels a little bit sunk in the housing… as if it’s pressed to one side  or perhaps there’s a bit more margin between the button and the housing.

Awesome!
I sadly never played the others in the Megadrive/Genesis, I did play the first on the arcades and it was what made me want to have one  I would agree that the first one, specially the arcades one is much better than all the others. I only was able to buy the 3 that to compensate has some of the best box art I ever seen in any game up to today.

Your game is in mint condition, how nice!, I really appreciate your game pad picture, it will help Me to fix the pending issues, I been a bit busy but I keep working on both the console and gamepad, I am planing to make a Mega drive version too. In fact my first console was a mega drive version, I guess it was imported from Japan because it was NTSC different from the pal versions, I bought it along castle of ilusion and next I bought Golden axe, Thank You friend!.

That’s interesting! If you had the one with the huge “16-bit” text in gold, then yes, for sure you had the Japanese one… that’s my favorite. Pal Megadrive, the one released here in Portugal is, for me, the worst version when it comes to design!
