Wow! These are insanely well done! Incredible amount of work and very realistic and beautiful.
I took a look and said perfect! Then saw you ask if there was anything that you could make any better. So I took a second, very close look, to scrutinize if there was anything at all that you could improve. Not really. If I had to come up with something though, the only minor tweak I’d make is that in a few of the renders the tongue looks a little dark and dry. So maybe a little more subsurface scattering and wetness on the tongue. But again, that’s only to intentionally be as picky as possible to try to offer anything at all. It’s nothing that has to change and is not really noticeable unless you’re looking for something to tweak. I had to hunt hard for something, just to offer anything…
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to look closely at the renders to find something I could improve.
I did try working on the SSS and wetness of the tongue, but I do see what you mean about it reading somewhat dark and dry in some of the renders. I’ll be sure to fix that very soon.
Thanks again for the incredibly kind words and the thoughtful feedback. I really appreciate it!!
I went and looked at the tongue shader and bumped up the SSS. I also found that I had not made a roughness map, and it was at the default value of 0.5 . I made a roughness map using the normal map and some Fresnel from the layer weight node, and it looked a lot better.
I’ll fiddle around with the values a bit more, but this is the result I got.
That tiger looks amazing. I really like the way you are able to pose it and its facial features are great when it growls or has the mouth open. Fantastic work. The fur looks huggable (although not advised).
Not sure if you intend to ever use it in animations, but the only criticism I dare to offer is that the animation cycle at the end is falling a bit short - it might be mostly that the gait looks not cat-like enough. Longer steps and more of a swing to the body might fix it.
I’ve started working on the animation process, and here’s where I’m at after several hours of work. I’m finding it a bit difficult to do the cycle, especially since I’ve never been too keen on animation, but now I’m trying my best to learn. I know it’s far from perfect and still a work in progress, with lots of errors I can already see, but I’m genuinely enjoying the process and couldn’t wait to share my progress.
I’ll be finishing up the bones I haven’t animated yet and then refine everything. I’ve also been studying quite an amount of references as well as some workflow tutorials on YouTube, and I think it’s been helping a lot.
I also got quite a lot of help in the form of advice from @kelvinartstudio when I messaged him. He does some amazing work and you guys should definitely check him out! Here’s his latest piece that inspired me a lot to animate my own:
