Sid Chiang's Mugen Honda CRX

Found this car online, thought it was perfect, so I made a tribute to it.

These are the only images of it I could find:

I could’ve definitely spent more time on this, but I’ve started so many projects in the past few months and didn’t finish any of them so I just had to get this out

Onto the next one…

hi
interesting “render style” is this is cycles? or something else?

Yeah it’s Cycles. Maybe you’re referring to the “glowy” feel it has? At least that’s what I’ve done in post, add a lot of glow in some areas.

Here are some before/afters:

Wow! Nicely done @marvluebke…I had to register after searching for my CRX pics online and found this. That’s was my car! Thanks for paying tribute!

Oh shit how cool is this?? Thanks!

Yeah as I’ve written in the description, I just loved the car at first sight.

I tried to get it as close as possible, though one thing I know that’s different on my version is the paint. I
read that it had the special Ford Mustang color changing paint?
I didn’t end up doing that special paint because the only images I could find of your car were shot indoors where it looks like just one colour and I wasn’t sure if it was really as extreme of a “chameleon effect” as the Mystichrome Mustang.

Do you know where the car is now? Any more recent images of it online?

The color, was at the time, a BASF experimental paint that flopped colors wildly…it ended up as the Mystichrome and very similar…although mine was matte, which was very unique for automotive at the time…the guy who bought my car back in early 2000s ended up not having done much to it and recently got in touch with me to see if I wanted to buy it back…I would if I could sell one of my kids lol…I suppose seeing it in virtual reality is better than nothing…that car was insanely fast…before Fast and Furious was a thing…

custom car model?

Because it is.

Based on a game model I found and then added some modifications to match the real world reference car

Amazing job! Did you use blender for the all the post process or some other software?

Post process was done in Photoshop. Mostly just some simple curves and glow, but in some shots I replaced car lights with photographic ones.

Sid, you mentioned the owner offered it back to you recently, I would love to look into reviving this car if he is interested in selling still.

Hi Nick…send me a PM and I’ll get you in touch with him…

I may be an idiot, but I do not see a way to pm you. Shoot me an email,

Just sent you an email Nick…
