His Patreon is getting less than 10% of what a Core Dev would get as a salary. Sure it can grow, but I really wish he does get hired.
If BF doesn’t, he’ll be hired by some other company, is that what you want?
Pablo (another one, which is already in) said that they have already planned to do that using devfund, so donate moar!
How would he be ‘financially hurting the blender foundation’ when the explicit reason for the existence of the development fund is to hire developers. We lost Nicholas Bishop (who did a lot of sculpting development) because he got hired by another company.
Developers having not been doing too well trying to raise fund through Patreon so I think a development fund grunt could be better overall.
Absolutely amazing work!
Maybe somebody will clear this for me. Blender was granting funds for current developers, before dev fund was opened. First goal of dev fund was to hire 5 developers which turned out to be hiring current developers but switching from “grant mode” to “hire mode”. So. Not to go to deep in BF finances, it seems that the “grant fund” should be available somewhere, or not?
As I understand it the fund itself existed for quite some time before the current, more prominent format. The initial contributions/ came from this older form and where transferred together with the already existing team.
New funding made more positions possible and that’s what we are seeing now.
Oh no, Pixologic is going to steal Pablo for ZBrush!
Pixologic strictly hire programmers from the future… some say Ofer himself isn’t even from our solar system
Come to think of it… Ofer Alon does sound like an extraterrestrial name, something like Kal-El.
Hmm… Elon Musk also sounds alien. What if Elon and Alon are twins from outer space?
The conspiracy thickens…
That and the fact that I’ve only ever seen Ofer once when they won that oscar. Such a mysterious bloke. We never see or hear him evangelising ZB, even at the summit.
He can have more than one source of income. If he can get as or more stable and rewarding employment from crowdfunding and contract or freelance work, why not? It’s good he can take breaks or amazing ‘detours’ like the Blueprint Tool.
He would make more money buy selling addons than by donation.
it can be merge with cursor
Maybe. Could do both through Patreon combined with variable payment (no or very low minimum on gumroad for example)? Many ways to find the balance he wants for making it available while still earning an income.
i am hoping that he is getting familiar with modeling code so he can work on the Retopo tools later on… because it seem he is taking a whole different direction here.
Can you guys share the latest build? I m having hard to build it myself.
Pablo is running out of ZBrush tools to recreate, so now the branch has been renamed to “Pablo’s take on SketchUp”.
Lol
He’s gonna cover all the Sketchup tools and make it irrelevant
