The new Cycles CPU 2.79 Benchmark

Its running at 3.7Ghz. I don’t remember under-clocking it. But CPU-z doesn’t lie (i guess).
Is your machine running at 3.9GHz? That would explain the difference.

I knew that there was a difference between Linux and Win, but i wasn’t sure if it isn’t driver related or something else. This is a drastic difference.
That definitely means i will render on Linux in the future if it is ~14% faster.
No wonder all these Hollywood Renderfarms are running on Linux.

The frequency depends on how the BIOS is configured. You may have modified something manually, or chosen some predefined profile that under clocked the CPU, as can be some profile for energy saving.

Yes, I did the benchmark with CPU stock clock, running at 3.9GHz in turbo.
If you have a decent air cooler, you can easily overclocking your “k” CPU model at 4.6GHz. Even more with a good water cooling system.

Regarding industry, I have read Houdini users talk about a big difference in performance in favor of Linux.
