trying to put a detail only on certain areas of the cup by using different materials gives very different results

I can’t find a way to use vertex groups within shader nodes. Face Maps have disappeared in 4.0 alpha

Solution: use vertex paint mode to create a color attribute (shift+k to fill faces selected in edit mode)
