I have added some details to the train but I am looking for some help. For the rails I don’t the sharp turn that results from the face rotation. I am looking for more of a smooth turn like a normal rail has. I have some other places I would like to put rails but I don’t want them to look like that. Any help would be appreciated.
yah, press ctrl-N while selecting the vertices on the end of the train, that thing on the tip of it. That will get rid of all the weird black lines on it. O, and do that to the wheels too.
I have sometimes noticed in one of my models that that technique and it didn’t help a bit. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. What I do when it doesn’t work is use the auto-smooth to 80 (which is in the mesh part of the editing panels) and click the button above it. That should get rid of those black lines. If not then I have no idea what to do .
Ok here is another update. I tried to recalculate the normals and that didn’t help the black spots however using the auto smoooth of 80 did work. I have a added a few more details. The more comments the better, especially the constructive ones.
Hey. this is just random. But I find to soften the shadows and to make any untextured mesh easier to see, i place 6 hemi lights pointing straight up, down, left, right, foreward, and backward with an energy value of .1
and then keep one other light as your key light. just makes it easier to see all the details otherwise hidden in the murky blackness…looking good so far
Here is yet another update. I have added some more details and cleaned up some edges. After some thought I remembered the spin function and I was able to use it to make the angles in the rails and bars. I also added the recommended lights and I agree it does make it easier to see. As always comments are appreciated.
Looking good man. I couldn’t do that much after just 2 months of blender. It looks like just a few more of the basic shapes and your ready to start adding details. Keep it up!
Every wheel has a metal part to counter the weight that the piston attachement adds, also the piston has a second smaller piston that pulls it over the point where it’s extended at it’s furthest. The boiler (the big part) needs to be placed higher so there is room for the mechanics, axles (did I spell that right? probably not) and the pipelines that regulate the steam flow.
Disregard most of this post as most of it will be wrong or too much work to implement
Looks good for only 2 months though. I don’t think I was anywhere near the quality when I used blender for 2 months ^^
Here is my the beginnings of my texturing. I started using the internal render engine but found that there were a lot of black spots near the bars so I moved to yafray and found the results to be much better but still found some problems. First my world texture doesn’t appear, and secondly only one of my 10 lights works. these two problems don’t happed in the internal renderer. Also, in the yafray renderer I would like the bars to look more like they do in the internal render. Any help with all four problems would be appreciated along with and other comments or criticisms.
