UV unwrap rhino to blender

Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to export the uv unwrapping made on rhino to blender. Generally when converting my rhino model to obj to render them in Blender, I end up having a mesh with a terrible topology (which is not a big issue in most of the case) but sometimes It needs to be uv unwraped and that topology makes it difficult. In rhino you can directly uv unwrapped object following the edge and isocurves, and I was wondering if there was a way to export that uvUwrapping to blender along with the model?
Maybe I need to export in a different file format?

Thanks in advance

Try using an FBX export…Increase the Polygons on the conversion from Nurbs to mesh to the maximum for a better mesh in the export dialogue.

Make sure that the Rhino file has UVs if you haven’t done so when working in Rhino, some people assume that the model in Rhino has UVs by default, but it might not, so better to check and create the UVs if needed.

I don’t know if I can do the work I want with the Addon in the link below.

Or take a look at the text in the link below or ask questions.

Actually I just realised that OBJ file exports uv map too, what’s the benefit of using fbx? I tend not to use fbx because you can’t automatically weld a solid polysurface…

Great plug in but I never managed to make it work since 4.0

Do you mean in Blender? Sure Use the Weld Modifier it’s a lot like Merge by Distance but in modifier form.

Me neither, it installs be doesn’t show in the import options and hasn’t been updated for a while…( last time I checked)

I stand corrected, got a fix 2 weeks ago for 4.3

I just keep an older version around where it does work and go from there… The only problem is, if I remember right it does not support UV import, I had a discussion with jesterKing about it…

UP-DATE new update with fix works well on the first test importing Rhino 5 file, with UV and geometry is not too shabby either…

Addon is updated later than the version update rate of the blender.
If possible, use a lower version of the blender together. (I recommend blender 3.6)
The blender file can be recognized in the higher version.

I mean that in rhino when you export as a obj, in the option you have ‘welded’ which creates a solid closed mesh (if your polysurface is closed of course) while in fbx each faces is not linked together.

I saw that the plug in has been updated recently but, havn’t managed to install it on blender 4.2…
don’t really want to downgrade to 3.6…
@ RSEhlers you managed to install it on 4.2?

With FBX export, I get exactly what I have in Rhino, when imported to Blender ( except for a random UV not exporting correctly, most of the ones I just tried worked fine…)

If it is a welded mesh in Rhino I get the same in Blender…

Yes I just installed the latest " import_3dm-v0.0.15-py3_11-windows"
File…no problems Blender 4.2.2 LTS

For meshes it works but not polysurfaces, maybe I have a tick box somewhere that need to be toggled…
I reinstalled blender and the plug in works now
Is there a way to manage the meshification of the surfaces? it automatically tesselate it to a low mesh

What version are you using? I only have 5 and 6 and I haven’t updated them in like forever…I just don’t use Rhino that much anymore…except playing with Grasshopper for some stuff…

Only if you export as an OBJ file, FBX (at least on Rhino 5) is a lower surface detail and there are no options but either Nurbs or Meshes ( same in Rhino 6…don’t know about 7… I don’t use DAE/Collada so don’t know about them… Poly surfaces and curves do come in separated…but are easy to join together…
