Hey this is LOVELY! I love how you used 3D to create a traditionally animated aesthetic.

Artist-to-artist, would you mind sharing a bit about your process?

It looks like you maybe started with Grease Pencil, and then modelled? Or did you do basic modelling and some sculpting and then draw over it? Is the final scene a 3D render with 3D grease pencil drawings, or is it more “2D traced” over the geometry?

I’m currently learning everything I can about grease pencil to create an important piece as soon as I can (it’s so much fun to use!), so your piece really stood out to me. Amazing mood, composition, atmosphere, everything.

All the best! <3

Sorry for the super late reply. Thanks for clarifying!
That makes it all the more mind-blowing.

The stuff you can do with compositing, and the thought-process to figure out what you’ll do in 3D vs what will be done in freestyle / compositing passes, is just so fascinating.

Your work inspires me!

Congratulations, this work has been nominated for the ‘Best of Blender Artists 2022’ award in the #npr category! You can vote for it here.
