yet another Avatar model

hello blender artists, saw Avatar about a week ago and because it was so awsome i decided to make a model of the na’vi, i have most of the head modeled for a base mesh wich i modeled using the poly by poly method, the body i will model using box modeling cuz its easier and gets the job done, comments/criticues are welcome

well, im gona try to make it genderless so i can make different characters if i want to

Hmm. Well, I think that it would be better if you made it male or female at some point, at least. The cheekbones seem a bit sharp for my tastes but it’s kind of hard to critique without a “gender” application to it. Still, it’s great!

heres and update the head is finnished tomarow i will start on the body and i will add a gender at some point, for now im planny on making jake sully but i also plan on making neytiry. the images are in ortho so thats why the face looks wide

Bao2 i saw you’re neytiry model and its pretty impressive! but what do you mean when you talk about difficult areas?

The corner of the mouth, the placing of the eyes, the laterals of the nose…

did u see the CG talk where the freakin plants had a million polys! wow. Mesh is looking good. I think the mouth should recede more under the nose.

yeah dude thats freakin insane! and yeah ill work on make the mouth go more under the nose but right now i’ve run into a problem, i have absalutly no idea of how to model the back, i have the ass modelled but its malformed and the topology for it is shoddy at best. anyone have any pointers on how to go about this?

Download these videos to your disk using the Video Download Helper plugin for Firefox and use VLC to play them and you can go frame by frame (enable View/Advanced controls and now you have a Frame by Frame button).

Look at this one !!! in 1080 too Jake’s back is perfectly show when he starts to walk. This user has a lot of videos.

ok fixed the form once im done with the body i’ll start altering the shape of the head to make it look more like jake sully’s

when modelling the body, where did you start? at the center of the stomach and extrude out repeatedly?

sorta like that but not quite, when i stared modelling the body i extruded a point from the bottom center of the rib cage until i got a basic outline of it and i did the same for the bottom part of the gut and i just filled in faces between those lines. after that i used CTRL R to make more edges in the gut and i used the knife tool to form the gut muscles,then i extruded out ward to form other parts of the torso. thats basically how i made the head and rest of the body

heres another updadte, sculpted the head to liik more like jake sully

ok connected the head to the body and made more alterations to the bogy in sculpt mode to fix form and proportions, all i have to do now is make the arms and finnish the legs then i can go into sculpting the details
