Ricky,

Bart mentioned the same thing about missing images about a week ago. I don’t know why they’re not visible to other people. I can see them all. I’ll borrow my wife’s computer this week and see if they’re missing when looking at it from her account. From now own, I’ll just upload the images directly here instead of linking to my google photo album.

Up until now, the project has been textured in Mari, but my copy of Mari crashed hard and after fighting with it, I ended up losing all my projects. The good news is I have the exported files for all the interior textures, the bad news is I can’t update them anymore. The other good news is I’m enjoying learning Substance Painter.

Here are the first results texturing with Substance:

looking very nice for texturing
did you try it in EEVEE if you have a big video card with lot’s of memory

i can use it but only on some scene otherwise EEVEE crashes LOL

how is it with Substance easy to use with blender ?

happy bl

do you have pics showing the engine on 2 sides?

and another pic showing the 2 clutches
one for diesel engine and the other one for the E motor

thanks

I haven’t tried EEVEE yet. I like Cycles enough that I haven’t felt the need to try it.

Substance is pretty easy to use with Blender. The most tedious part is properly setting up the object for painting (good UV layout, material identifiers, masks…) Once that’s done, painting and exporting are easy. I have been having problems with the bump maps. They come out way too strong in blender. The bump maps look much better in Substance.

My engines don’t have much detail on the back. I didn’t have any good photographs and nobody was going to see it since I was only going to render the port engine. No real clutch details either, sorry.

More painting done…

There is a small particle system in the water (an attempt at marine snow). I’m still working on my underwater setup. I was just happy to finish the model.

Mark - I just found this site via a link from another model building forum. I am just floored by the level of detail in your renderings. I am working on the Trumpeter 1/48 scale U-Boat and have been gathering data for the last couple of years. I don’t know how I missed your drawings but I’m sure glad I found them. I love the lighting in many of your drawings that really bring out much of the background detail that is always lost in photos of U-995.

I see that the drawings of the conning tower back in June and July have x’d out. Is there a chance you could repost those? That always seems to be an area that is short on well defined pics.

Thanks again for all your hard work. Look forward to more!

I don’t know why some images don’t show up any more. They all show up for me.

Here are some renders of the conning tower. I hope they help. Are you posting images of your Trumpeter project anywhere? I would be interested in seeing them.

Mark - Thanks for posting. I don’t know why, I was thinking those would be interior shots of the attack periscope. I guess because of all the other interior pics. No worries, I’ll take any and all info!

Thanks for asking about the model. Unfortunately it has been put on hiatus because I lost my spare room to our nephew. I was able to get a shed constructed in our backyard but it will be awhile before it’s habitable. That said, here is the link to the forum thread. I started with the engine room and did a lot of scratchbuilding. Have a long way to go. I also want to redo some of it now that I’ve had time to stare at it.

I originally wanted to do interior modeling of the conning tower, but I could not find enough reference material to make it happen. Good luck with your build. Your engine room is looking good.

I sent you a PM with my email.

This is stunning work, really stunning. The modelling and texturing are of a very high quality on the finished model, good enough for movie work or documentary work. If you don’t do this professionally you certainly could if you want to. Send some of these images to some people who make documentaries and you could get some commissions.

And if you do it just for the love of it and don’t want to get paid for it then just keep having fun. Please keep posting too, work of this quality inspires me to keep on trying to improve.

I’m glad you like it. Your comment means a lot. Thanks.

Amazing work really! Let me know are you willing to sell 3d model of torpedo launchers? How can I send you pm?
