Seeking Guidance: Overlapping Video Projection on Cut Tube with Minimal Hardware Setup

Hi Blender artists,

I hope you’re all doing well! I’m currently working on a project and could use some guidance on a particular aspect.

I have a cut tube where I plan to project two videos using overlapping projectors on its inner surface. Unlike real-time mapping tools, I’m aiming for a simpler solution that involves playing pre-rendered videos on each projector using the most cost-effective hardware available.

Specifically, I’m looking to achieve to get two correctly distorted and slightly overlapping videos that perfectly fit the projectors’ surfaces.

I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to achieve this effect using Blender (or any other easily accessible tools, if there’s a simpler way). My primary aim is to learn and solve this problem. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you all for your help in advance!

Best regards,
limestone

Interesting… well… if you search for: compute overlapping projections for an image projector… i’ll find a lot of info about this… or example this (but only for plane projections ??)

or this academic presentation from 2015 (the paper seesm to be online too) wanting to solve it on unregular surfaces…

or this from 2013

also some “profesionals” … (and the direct follow-up and more)

This is actaully getting interesting by the minute. Oh wait… i just added blender :joy_cat:

… i even guess there is some solution to simply project a special pattern on any surface (even overlapping) and then re-compute the distortion needed to solve this… but i’m not going into this now…
