Hello friends!
Welcome to The Gate Sheriff WIP thread!
The Gate Sheriff is our 3rd short animation project.
We have two others in WIP at this point Clash On Little Pond and Resilience Satelle.
Like the two predecessors we’ll keep sharing here all the development.
Your first question is probably: why start yet another project if the first two haven’t even been released yet?
Simple Because the assets, scenery, characters, and pretty much everything else are already finished for both projects. At this point, what’s left is filmmaking and animation work. @Rute_Perdiz is therefore free to start on a new project, and this one is next in line. Yeah… I wrote quite a few stories when I was a kid
Your second question… easy!
Yes, unlike COLP and RS (which were made entirely through traditional workflows, with no AI whatsoever), we’ll be using a hybrid workflow for the conceptual design and concept paintings. By “hybrid” I mean AI prompts combined with GIMP and Blender editing. AI will be used as a reference generator.
The actual 3D work will continue to be created by hand, using only Blender tools just as before.
(Stay tuned! More information to be added as we move on)
After reading the script and getting a clear vision of the story and its references, I began modelling the environment.
I started with the room where the story begins, a hospital medical analysis room. I’ve already established its overall dimensions and the basic layout of how it will look. At the moment, it’s still just a rough blockout, and from this foundation I’ll continue refining and improving every detail.
So you guys want to learn a bit more about the origin of this project!?
Some surely remember a time, after Big Buck Bunny in which the Blender foundation wanted to do an Action “no story” movie. That movie later turned out to be Sintel… but all started a bit before that announcement.
I tough that kind of thing would be the perfect project for me to direct, so I start immediately writing the story… well yeah I also failed in the “no story” thing but I sure didn’t cut in Hollywood style/ Japanese anime action.
I completed the script and I was just polishing it and prepare it to send to Ton (I felt he would at least give it a look) when they announced that, after all, the project was already much more advanced than I imagined and it was called Sintel.
So… yeah at the time this was too complex to make alone… we still didn’t had the production pipeline that we’re using for COLP and RS… so it was archived to a better time and here we are The better time as arrived!
Today I started working on the ceiling details. It may look simple, but it’s actually more challenging than it seems. Whenever a design includes a lot of circular shapes, I sometimes find it difficult to make everything perfectly aligned and accurately measured.
I also added a corridor so that the lighting in the room will be more consistent later on.
We managed to get there, though, and the result is exactly what we were aiming for.
There are still a few details left to complete, and by Monday the ceiling should be fully modeled.
Today I spent some time organizing the walls to prepare them for the next stages. I also managed to add the built-in cabinet and install a few more lights.
Tomorrow I’ll start working on some furniture details as well.
Today I finished the walls and joined them together. At least for now, they don’t seem to need any more adjustments, but I’ll keep checking as I continue filling the room with more elements.
I’m also sharing a few wireframe images so you can see what the geometry actually looks like.
Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to start furnishing the room.
Today I started modeling the furniture to fill the room. I’ve already completed two pieces of furniture, although they still need a few adjustments, and I’ll continue adding more to gradually bring the room to life.
It’s already looking a great place! The wireframes side by side also are fun! Thanks for the insight @Rute_Perdiz
…So who wants to guess what this may be?
Today I spent some time improving the geometry of some of the furniture and getting it ready for the next stage. I also created a few tables and accessories to help bring the room to life.
On Monday, I’ll start working on the analysis chair.
Our examination chair is starting to take shape. The entire base is almost modelled, and tomorrow I’ll start working on the backrest before moving on to the padding. I’m modelling it piece by piece, adjusting things and adding details along the way.
Our chair is almost finished!
I’ve now reached the upholstery modelling stage, and I’m finishing up the more detailed overall look.
Next, I’ll add a few final touches, and it will be ready.
