In addition to my glassware & related shader experiments, I’ve also been experimenting with marble shaders. More specifically using the volume scatter and volume absorption nodes.
Although I eventually went out and bought some real marbles for reference, it turns out that real marbles are surprisingly boring compared to the results of my experiments. So these aren’t intended to reflect reality. Although at some point I will attempt to create real marbles as well… just to do it.
The first image (most recent) features an apple from my procedural fruit shader.
The next image features a paperclip and a grid pattern (set to 1 inch squares) that I use to judge scale which I talk about here. It also helps to include scale objects in images so that viewers can easily get a sense of how big (or small) things are.
The image with the base of a glass is a bit heavy-handed with the scratches. It is simply part of the workfile where I was using it to judge how the same sized scratches looked on both the marbles and the glass.
