I want to make every type of game in Blender. What are your thoughts?

Before you immolate me…

I know it’s insane and delusional, you need a bit of both to be a game developer
It’s just a thought that’s been eating at me for a long time and I decided to go for it.
Yes I’m aware of game engines other than Blender. It’s just that I made sense of Blender first you know?
It’s my goal to learn Unreal Unity Gdevelop Crytek Neoaxis and every other engine if possible.

If it’s not too much to ask, what do you think about this? Just looking for feedback. I already started making a platformer. Currently working on sprites and animation.

…yikes this is gonna hurt :grimacing:

All right! Thanks guys! (and gals??) The journey begins!:sunglasses:

Im starting with a platformer, it’s already in the WIP section.

2D types.
Other game types I’m going to build:
Turn based RPG
Action adventure
Tower defense
Retro fps
Idle game
Card
Life simulator

3D types.
Platformer
First Person Shooter
Third Person Shooter
ARPG
Racing
Hack n slash
Survival / survival horror
And MAYBE a Snowboarding sports game.

No guarantees but the first game is already in production!

I foresee a few hits of mojo juice going down range, just looking at that lot.

Anyway, have a blast.

My dude, if nobody took risks like this nobody would get anywhere! It sounds like a rewarding, fun experience that’ll also help ya learn! Make sure to keep things posted here like progress and all!

So… when you know that this is somekind of “insane”… then you may have a lot of fun…
:+1:

I think most of the “this-is-my-game-developers” do not understand that there is more than the nice graphics in a game and therefore there are:

  • character modeler
  • character animator
  • environement modeler
  • environment optimizer (visual and for game place)
  • special effect specialist
  • shader programmer
  • for simulation: mathematicians
  • game mechanics (animations)
  • game mecahnic (behaviour)
  • for balancing: ?? ( maybe also mathematicians ?)
  • story: writers
  • cinematics: directors
  • music composer (!! general theme, character theme, background themes,… )
  • motion capture:
    • specialists
    • actors
    • athletics
    • stunt(wo)men
    • directors
  • voice actors
  • planning:
    • concept artists
    • storyboard artists
    • project manager

…so go for it… the sky is the limit…

@ everyone, I appreciate your feedback and humor😆
@sacboi - that’s only half the list… I considered open world, RPG and mmorpg too but I didn’t want to seem…too delusional

@Okidoki - I am nowhere near qualified but passionate.

@IvyKnight - Germz! (2d platformer- built in UPBGE 0.2.5)

I expect to fail, but the world’s gonna end, might as well give it a shot!

No reason to immolate you; you’re talking about a passion project, not something you’re trying to sell.

Sure, it’s gonna hurt at times. But you’re also gonna learn a veritable cactusload of things, and they will stand you in good stead later on. And I hope you’ll have fun, too.

BTW, open world isn’t delusional; it doesn’t really take all that much (Minecraft is open world, and it wasn’t particularly complex when it first came out). MMORPG on the other hand I’d probably put off until later. You can get at a lot of what makes that by starting with a simple RPG and then adding co-op play; limited multi-player. I mean, how far do you want to go with each game you’re planning to develop? Proof of concept so you understand what all is involved, or a full game that people other than your friends might want to actually play? I think the former is a tall order, but possibly doable. The latter, not so much. Have a look at the sort of games people create during game jams.

Keep us posted!

Narrowed down the list of enemies and finished basic pixel art.
Enemy roster mk3 final

germz- suspect list

Just need to make a few backgrounds and then I can start shaping the final game.

EDIT- Im going to post updates in the WIP section to keep this section clear.

If you are prepared to work on a serious game project then go ahead but I’m going to tell you “The Truth” I once thought like you do before you made this post and I thought it was going to be easy but it’s only now I understand the realities of working with the Engine.

Everything’s is possible if you are prepared to work solo on every single aspect of the game from scratch from start to end.

You got to make it work! If it doesn’t work all your efforts are a waste of time!

That’s just how I’m going to put it from now on here in the forums.

You’ve really got to be prepared to work!
And when you work the engine will bare with your scope and vision and things may work out beautifully if you are patient with the Engine enough.

Here’s a Link to my Thread if you’re interested in following my project:
TBW - An UPBGE Game!

It’s still active today I’m just working on the ground up core mechanics, soon as I have something to show I will update my thread in future…

Just a word of advise when you start, whatever you start whether big or small, stick with it until the end never abandon your project!

Finish it and release it and wait for reception on it, it’s worth the hard work.

Last tip regarding UPBGE/ BGE!

  • When working with this engine you need to have a passion for whatever you want to create , you will have to build every single thing from its core mechanics from the ground up no matter how simple or complex the game might be with its systems and make it work, the real skill is in blending all the elements you learnt from tutorials and all the available resources that you can use from the Blender Artists forums and mash it up all in to one thing that works well, the hard work is making it work which is bringing all these things in to one thing to make it a game that works, it’s a skill very few lack when they start using the engine and it requires experience working in The Engine in order for mastery!

Always remember that!

Otherwise you’ll just be working and working on things and your project could end up looking like you’re just playing around or messing around or wasting time on things that could have amounted in to a working final game.

This is why so many have started their projects in the past and it only ended up looking like a piece of an unfinished tech demo not even a game or anything at all, and projects left abandoned…

The completion of the project comes with loads and loads of patience but your heart has to be in it at all times no giving up!

That’s the principle: never Give up! don’t Stop, Keep going!

I don’t know anything about game dev (other than that it’s hard), or games really. But if you tell me you’re going to try to make one of every kind there is, I say have at. It’s not a bad goal to have, especially if you go in accepting that you could very well fail.

I like your little pixel art dudes so far. Does the cactus repeat? My computer won’t let me embiggen the pictures to get a better look at the designs.

Hi.

I smell you jumping from ideas straight into production?
From experience, that might not be the best approach…

funny how people jump into popping honeypot thread like these … but go full mute when it’s about solving or going ahead in a project

Lol it’s common practice at this point on the Forums

@Fred_K.S
You are correct! Without passion I would have quit a long time ago. Thankyou for that advice. It took a while but the BGE started to make sense one day! Putting all those parts together became satisfying. As to your project The Blender Wars, your dedication is admirable! That is an epic undertaking, best wishes and more power to you. The Mustafar dog fight is wild, I tip my hat to you! Many thanks for your words of encouragement.

@G_De
Thanks! After tinkering with the BGE, it just seemed lazy to only make a platformer.
Hubris? Possibly.
Fun? Absolutely!
The pixels came out smaller than I anticipated. They look huge in Gimp. Here’s a bigger version

@astlexi
I wouldn’t dare! Theres a tech demo on my WIP page. It’s made in UPBGE 025. 03 and 036 freeze on my old PC. I’m starting off with simple pixel art, I’m talking 6x6 textures and no line art. I’m being as cautious as possible!

@blenderaptor
LOL!…what’s a honeypot thread?

it’s a thread everyone like to jump in for small talk , giving their valuable advice, rant … etc … it’s very far from those thread going into the real stuff, those often got few reactions.
When i see all the people above, i never seen them before … so i’m like … wut ?
